i found silver's link to be far more detailed than google earth

The version Silver posted is a combination of the Google and Microsoft maps. The Microsoft one is more detailed for the Leicester area, the Google one is good for other places.

I have never managed to get Google Earth to work on my computer so this is quality.

I found it interesting too. It's a shame that it gets blurry when you zoom in really far (i.e looking in your back garden) although in some ways that could be considered a good thing.

Microsoft's Virtual Earth mapping thing has just updated the Leicester area using the new 3D and 'Birds Eye' views. (Nothing to do with Fish Fingers)

You have to download the 3D viewer to see the 'Birds Eye' sights but they do seem pretty good photos that can be viewed from many angles.
All Leicester is included, even the house where I was born...(now that IS scary)
