While on the issue of scouting, this is interesting from Craig Shakespeare, about Jamie Vardy:

"You have to remember scouting and recruitment on him. It was very in depth on him because we had the time to do it."


The implication being that for some transfers they haven't had the time to do in-depth scouting. Perhaps this summer, when we reportedly missed several of our top targets, who may have been scouted fully but didn't sign, and we had to go back to players we'd done less work on.

Either way, it's intriguing, and pleasing, to see the level of professionalism that's involved in the process.

Do you really think other clubs don't already know about this?

It is not secret stuff. The question for other clubs is are they prepared to put a huge amount of resources to run this sort of programme. It is the same with the sports science. The owners have bought into the whole marginal gains ethos and invested in the technology and a large number of highly qualified medical and sports science staff to produce individual training, development monitoring and coaching programmes.

I suspect plenty of other managers would rather spend the money we spend on sports science on the salary of another player. they will realise their mistake in due course but hopefully we'll be established PL by then.
