I might have said the same thing about Chris O'Grady a year ago who presents a very different figure after his dose of reality-therapy at Boston. Perhaps a period at Mansfield will similarly affect Alan Sheehan.

:018:

eeerrrr... wasn't CO'G told he had to live in Boston and commute daily to Rushden?

Yeh but it be bloody out the way.

He would surely live temporary somewhere like Kettering or Wellingborough.

It was a joke - a feeble attempt to cover up my error.

Just read foxestalk for the first time in ages (not because of the intellectually stimulating debate but because of Tharacians known love of Sheehan), and it is really quite funny the number of bulls*it conspiracy theories being banded about.

Have a read if you want a laugh.

link it so i dont have to trawl through all their shite please silver me old buddy.

Personally I think it is good. From the times I have seen him I can only say that he has a lot of potential.

I would say that I don't think he is ready for the first team though...yet! This little spell on loan will give him a chance to adjust to playing competative league games in front of a crowd, as opposed to the reserve fixtures he was involved in before.

The conspiracy theories that he is simply being moved along because RK doesn't get on with him holds no water. Why would he sign a new deal if there was friction, and further why would the club seek to send him out on loan if not to try to develop the lad.

Sorry Thracian and Co. you are talking out of your bottom holes!

In the words of Roy Walker, hes good, but he's not the one.

Not yet anyway.

:038: sounds about right to me.

From what I've seen of Sheehan, he's fairly quick, takes good set pieces, and has a good shot.
But as is often the case with young players, people see the good things and don't notice his deficiencies. Some of his defending has been really poor, and as a left back that's got to be your priority. His passing has often been wayward too.

I remember a few years ago people were raving about John Ashton after he made his debut. Most of the excitement seemed to be based on his long throw-ins, and a lot of people failed to notice that his passing had been awful and he'd regularly been caught out of position when he was supposed to be defending.
I think the same thing has happened with Sheehan, some people have been so dazzled by the good things he does they've failed to notice the bad side of his game. I'm sure he can work on his weaknesses and improve, and the move to Mansfield may help that.

I remember his debut away to plymouth, last game of the season if I recall correctly. The ref had to beg CL to substitute him, as Sheehan was doing everything in his power to get sent off. After that little display, I've always been a bit suspicious of all those who think he's the finished article. Going by the Hinckley away game ( I know it was a friendly and all that ) he still plays the game as if he's allowed to badly foul all and sundry.

eeerrrr... Sheehan did play and get booked during that game at Plymouth, but it was McCarthy who was dragged off because he was kicking everybody up in the air. Paddy only lasted 35 minutes before being replaced by Matt Heath (for his last City appearance), but Sheehan lasted the full 90 minutes.

In relation to Sheehan, I presume you are thinking about the game against Crewe just before Christmas last year when IIRC he was booked once then twice in quick succession at the start of the second so he could be first with the bath water.

Drinking 2 pints at a time doesn't help either.:icon_wink

That image from our first meet is etched firmly onto my minds eye :icon_lol:
