[/quote]Charges could soon be dropped against three Leicester City players accused of sexual assault at a Spanish hotel, their lawyer has said.
A court in Cartagena confirmed on Tuesday the results of long-awaited forensic tests had proved negative.

In March, Paul Dickov, Frank Sinclair and Keith Gillespie spent a week in a Spanish jail before being freed on bail.

The footballers were charged after three women accused them of serious sexual assault at a hotel in La Manga.

The players' defence lawyer, Luis Ruiperez, said he would now be seeking a judicial review to clear the players officially and have their bail money returned.

Full trial

But there could still be opposition from Encarnacion Gomez, the lawyer representing their accusers, who could still insist a full trial takes place.

The judge originally granted the men bail in March after a private hearing lasting several hours, in which both the players and their accusers gave evidence.

The Leicester trio were released after a 288,000 euro (£196,500) bail payment was made.

Leicester City chief executive, Tim Davies, told BBC Radio Leicester: "It is great news. Some would say this is inevitable news happening but it's taken time to come.

"It's just another step in the process of the players clearing their names and the club able to clear its reputation over the matter."
