Southend commentary

I have not got World at the moment because I think it is a rip off.

I have had the 30 day free trial a couple of times and cancelled it before paying anything. However, the free trial appears to no longer be available - they want £9.99 for the last 3 games !

As I live in Hertfordshire I can pickup BBC Radio Essex - anyone know if BBC Radio Essex carry a live commentary of Southend?

It's quite possible.

I know they used to do commentary of West Ham but it appears their game this weekend is on BBC London so Southend v City may well be on BBC Essex. I'm going to do my best to tune in too - I'm in south east London.

The people at Radio Essex will know the answer to that. You can ring them on 01245 616000 or email them at [email protected]

If they are anything like Radio Kent, they will broadcast on more than one frequency on more than one wave band and perhaps also on DAB. They may, as does Radio Kent, transmit commentary of one match on one one wavelength with another on a separate wavelength whilst continuing with other programmes on a third. You may be able to get Radio Essex, but perhaps it will be the 'wrong' Radio Essex.

Nope. Football commentary can only be broadcast via the radio and to the local area.

Thanks guys - I did try ringing Radio Essex but you can't speak to BBC Essex only a general BBC query handler for the whole country - she could not tell me for sure - so I guess I will just have to tune in and hope it's on.

They certainly used to do that but it looks like they've stopped doing it now.

BBC Essex Editor, Gerald Main says: "Commentary is still part of the package but there won't be commentary on every single match.

"Increasingly we'll use second half commentary and, as always, we'll be there to cover every minute that matters."

- yeah that's a shame - I just got the same email reply from Glenn Spiller as well. Still not enough to convince me to pay £9.99 to World though !
