Sorry if this has been mentioned as part of the 'Post Match' thread but if there was any evidence needed on how important Howard is to our team then yesterday was it.

IMO, he is the single irreplaceable player in the team. He has been immense for us this season and how people were calling for him to be dropped only a few weeks ago was beyond me then and still is.

Do they really think the Dicov/Fryatt partnership would have been more fruitful?

Also, I actually think Barry Hayles did well last night and showed far greater presence in unsettling their defence in 20 minutes than Dicov had for the previous 70. I believe he should start on Saturday if Howard has not recovered.

Since time immemorial, hindsight has always been a wonderful thing.

What was wrong with Howard last night then? Is he out for long?

Time for a quick dip into the transfer market to sign a big striker then?

Heard a rumour for my next door neighbours, best friends, uncles, workmates, brother that he is going to Everton

What a difference 12 months (and a relegation) makes.

Howard has flu apparently. I believe that might the first time Howard and flu were used in the same sentence.:icon_wink

Re: Steve Hoawrd

Maybe for some people but I for one never wanted him to be out of the team let alone leave the club.

My comment wasn't having a pop at you, but there are many people who make you laugh with how fickle they can be and how 'all-knowing' they are AFTER the event!

Is it fickle though Spion? Or has he upped his game so peoples opinions have changed?

A few of us always thought he was ok anyway and just lacked decent service

I respect other peoples opinions on Howard. I for one have gone record last season and the early part of this season describing him as a donkey. I have changed my opinion of late because i feel his performances have improved. Doesnt make me fickle. And no disrespect HF but i dont think you have actually seen play much ?

I saw him play a good deal for Derby and before that Luton and he wants/needs the ball crossing from the byline and not whacked over from 30 yards out which I believe was happening to him here.I would imagine he got a little bit pissed off/exasperated when this kept happening. He's not great, far from it but last season you could have put Drogba upfront for us and he wouldn't have fared a great deal better because the midfield /supply was fecking awful..from what I saw/heard.

His current recognition is down to work rate alone which he has upped considerably since last season. In my opinion of course.

Which I respect.Just thing the supply is a lot better this season, plus the opposing defences weaker of course

I think a large amount is down to being fickle. The same people who were chanting "Barry, Barry" last night were the same people who were booing him last season. He hasn't done anything to earn a change in a opinion as he hasn't played.

Why isn't he scoring more goals then?

He still not great in front of goal regardless of supply IMO. His strength is holding the ball up and for that hes been invalauble.

I don't know I can only comment on what I've seen in his Luton and Derby days and a lot of his goals came from balls crossed in from the byline
We should get Chris O'Grady back,he was quality ...remind me where he is now ?:icon_conf:icon_wink
