IMO the rumours about Beckford needs to be true, and a quality midfielder, otherwise we might find ourselves undone by our own frugality.

Beckford and Davies would see us through i think.

God forbid if we stay as we are and in 3 games time find ourselves minus King, Oakley and Fryatt.

I'm not sure we'd fare quite so well as we are with a midfield of Dyer, Berner, Adams, Gradel and Dickov and Howard up front.

I think we'd get ripped off if we went in for Beckford, Leeds value him way too highly. I reckon we'd be better off going in for someone like Mackail-Smith or McLean from Peterborough - we should try and get Joe Lewis off of them as well.

As for midfielders, I'd like Davies permanently, but I feel there is a very slim chance of this actually happening unfortunately.

There was some talk of Lambert from Bristol R in a few papers, not all that long ago. I thought he was average at best down here when we played them earlier in the season, however his goal scoring record is very good in this league. In terms of price, I think I remember one paper suggesting around £500k.

I think they were turning down offers of 2 million for them in the summer. I can't NP or MM wanting to pay that much or if they are worth that.

I know I'm a bit biased, but Ashley Chambers is getting back from his latest injury and has been back in the squad recently. At the start of the season he came on as sub ahead of DJ so NP must rate him. I'd love to see him get a proper go, especially at this level. I've been told he's bulked up a bit lately so he's going to be more able physically, and he's clearly got plenty of talent. IF he can keep fit I think we'll see more of him this season.

On the other hand, I also think we could do with signing a striker! :icon_bigg

Speaking as somebody who has met you both, I can clearly see the similarities.

Unless Fryatt is going (in which case would we need to sign two strikers?) we will not get anyone like Beckford, Lambert etc. They won't come to be back-up. It would have to be someone who is happy to sit on the bench.

Personally i think we'll be making do with Hayles, Dickov and Chambers.
