Based on what's happened so far in Pre-Season this is the team I would pick for Luton...
Douglas
Stearman McCarthy Kenton Nils
Maybury Wesolowski Johnson Tiatto
O'Grady Hammond
Porter, Williams, Hume, Fryatt, Low
Obviously if Paul Henderson's finger is OK then he would be in goal - I think that goes without saying...
With Paddy Kisnorbo unavailable I think the defence picks itself. My preference for Kenton over McAuley is based on the good form he and McCarthy showed when they played together in his previous spell with us. Obviously if he's not fit I would play McAuley.
I know the midfield doesn't exactly look inspiring but I think it works. Maybury and Stearman played very well together at the back end of last season and I don't necessarily think Maybury is that bad going forward. Against Derby last season he was man of the match. Also as a pair, he and Stearman are very solid defensively. Tiatto I would start with for his experience. I would play Wesolowski in midfield alongside Johnson as I feel they could well compliment each other. With Wesolowski doing the more defensive role it would allow Johnson to be the attacking force. It would also be a much more solid partnership in terms of giving support to the back-four. Williams and Hughes don't offer much in that department.
O'Grady and Hammond up front is based purely on their pre-season form. They seem to be forming a good understanding. Yes, Hume and Fryatt were outstanding in the final part of last season but I feel it would be good for both O'Grady, and in particular Hammond to be given the responsibility of being picked ahead of Hume and Fryatt when their confidence is, presumably, really high.
The subs bench has all places covered...
Fryatt and Hume cover for up-front. Gareth Williams will be an alternative for midfield if we need to push on and look for a goal or if Wesolowski was to tire. Bringing on Gareth Williams late when defences and midfielders are tired could be perfect for him to play balls in to the front-two. This may sound wierd but as well as offering cover for the wings, Josh Low would also offer defensive cover on the bench. Should Stearman or Nils go off we could put Alan Maybury in either full-back spot and bring on Low on the wing. Similarly, should McCarthy or Kenton have to go off, Nils or Stearman would go centre-back and again Maybury would switch to full-back. Levi Porter is the wildcard. Good to bring on for Tiatto as an attacking move. I wouldn't start the season with Porter in the first eleven but shuld he come on and do well over a period of time then I would certainly put him in from the start on the left.
I know there is no place for Stephen Hughes in the eleven but not all players can get in there...
