I'm quite surprised so many of you are quick to suggest that Hume-Fryatt should be broken up next season, particularly when Elvis is mentioned. Those of you that have seen the pre-season matches will be better placed to judge but I cannot for one second believe that Elvis has suddenly turned into a 15-20 goal striker at Championship level.

I'd much rather start the season with Hume-Fryatt based on the last few months of the previous season than the evidence of a few friendlies.

I can see that being the lineup with Maybury in for Hughes.

If O'Grady and Hammond are playing well then you have to seriously consider them! Even though it is only friendly games Hume and Fryatt have still looked below average in them!

I think Kelly will start with Hume Fryatt as these are our best two strikers but if they struggle after the first couple of games he has to give O'Grady and Elvis a chance

I completley agree, he fluffed 3 one on ones with the keeper last night in his old stlye but you can only call it as you see it and pre season him and O'Grady are the 2 strikers that have impressed. What importance you place on that when selecting the first competitive 11 is up for debate of course but nobody can argue that Fryatt and Hume have been poor.

This reminds me of the Owen v Crouch debate before the WC. And my post from back then has been weirdly accurate about Elvis!

And my thoughts still stand. Class will out and Elvis hasn't got it.

Poole, Grayson, Lewis, Hill, Willis, Parker, Galloway, Draper, Roberts, Joachim, Gee...

I think it will look something like this.........

-----------------Douglas---------------

Stearman---Kenton---McCarthy---Johansson

Maybury----Williams---Johnson----Hughes

-----------Hume------Fryatt

Subs :- Henderson, McAuley, Tiatto, Wesolowski, O'Grady

Find it hard to believe people are suggesting playing Sylla. The lad hasn't played seriously since we signed him. Look as though he could be the jobby against Milan, but never performed again. Apparently played well when he came on at Lincoln, so that was probably his good game of the season. We struggled last season because we carried some players till a managerial change came and altered that. Lets not take a backward step.

Very close to what I would expect. Only worry is Douglas, pre-season doesn't suggest any improvement from last year. There again Hendo doesn't fill me with confidence either, especially when the crosses come flying in.

I think O'Grady is going to have to figure somnehow. You just can't leave him out IMO - otherwise it seems pointless having reserve players who are trying to prove themselves and get into the first team, if they do prove themselves but don't get a go.

In which case, I'd have a serious look at Fryatt/O'Grady... Fryatt is a goal poacher and we really need him to score a few this year. It's more than a tad harsh on Hume, but if we're chosing from Low, Sylla and Maybury to play there, then why not Hume? After all, he played right mid for Tranmere as much as he did striker.

I think it will be:

Henderson (if fit)
Stearman, McCarthy, McCauley, Nils
Maybury, Johnson, Williams, Tiatto
Fryatt, Hume

I'd prefer Low to Maybury, Porter to Tiatto and Weso to Williams though.

At the minute I think there about 7 players whose place in the starting lineup is pretty much certain.

I think it's like this at the minute:

Undecided (Henderson edging it though, think it's more a question of whether he'll be fit.)

Stearman, McCarthy, Kisnorbo (McCauly first game), undecided
undecided, Williams, Johnson, undecided
Fryatt, Hume

People have mentioned Hughes, but from the friendlies it has seemed to be Williams and AJ together most of the time, and I expect that will be RK's favoured partnership to start off with

I think Hughes is actually going to be 4th choice for the central midfield spot. Weso might take Williams place in the starting lineup if he's fit I think, before Hughes does... Although, I don't think that should happen. I'll admit to not having seen Weso play, but despite how good people say he is, he's more of a defensive midfielder. That means we could have a midfield of Maybury, Johnson, Weso, Tiatto. 2 defenders and 2 defensive midfielders! Williams and Hughes may not offer a lot going forward most of the time, but I think I'd still rather have one of them in there rather than 4 defensive midfield players.

For the undecided positions, this is how I think it currently stands, but is more flexible than the others..

GK: As I say, probably will be Henderson if he's fit, most certain of the undecideds. Douglas follows him, Logan 3rd choice.

LB: Nils 1st choice, Sheehan 2nd
RM: I think Maybury is slightly edging it at the minute, probably mainly due to his link up with Stearman. Low 2nd to him, although I think we should start with J Low.
LM: Pretty sure Tiatto will play to start with at least, he seems to have been there in every friendly for most of the time. Hard to work out who's second to him though... Right now I'd say Porter, Hughes 3rd. Maybe the other way with those 2 though.

There are obviously more options who can play in those positions, but I think those are the players who are really in RK's mind right now for each position. Maybe Sylla for the right wing now as well after last night, but I'd still say he's 3rd in line in RK's thoughts..

Regardless of pre season form, I would be very surprised if RK moved too far away from the side that did so well for him in the second half of last season.

Therefore I think he will go with :

Henderson

Stearman
McCarthy
Kenton
Nils

Maybury
Johnson
Weso
Hughes

Hume
Fryatt

Subs

Douglas
McAuley
Tiatto
Low
O´Grady
