English side Leicester City will play a friendly with the Thai national team at Supachalasai stadium on Oct 9, the club said yesterday.
Vichai Raksriaksorn, who recently took over the Championship side, said this would be a good chance for Thai fans to watch an English club play in Bangkok.
The match, which kicks off at 6pm, will help the Thai players in their preparations for the Asian Games in November and the Suzuki Cup (Southeast Asian championship) in December, said Vichai who is chairman and CEO of King Power Group.
Leicester have signed Japan international Yuki Abe and are likely to land a Chinese player and a South Korean star in January's transfer window, he said.
However, he admitted that it would be difficult for the Foxes to sign Thai players because of England's strict work permit rules.
Instead, Leicester will accept Thai players to train at their academy and a Leicester academy will be built near Suvarnabhumi airport, Vichai said.
Club director Aiyawatt Raksriaksorn said players like Matt Oakley, Jack Hobbs, Leon Crncic and Yuki Abe will be on the trip.
The team will fly from England to Phuket and stay there for two days before coming to Bangkok.
Thai football chief Worawi Makudi said he had told national coach Bryan Robson to send the best team to play Leicester as this will be good for the players to gain experience before the Asian Games and the Suzuki Cup.
Leicester are currently 22nd in the 24-team Championship.
Tickets are 200, 500 and 1,000 baht for the general public and 100 baht for students. They will be on sale at Thai Ticket Major outlets from Oct 1 and at the stadium on match day.
