The blame rests with the strikers

If you look at it sensibly then you have to blame our strikers for this seasons woe.

We have the best defence in the entire league and yet are third from bottom.

Had the strikers done their jobs then we wouldn't be in the mess we are in - simple as that.

Hume - 9 goals
Howard - 6 goals
Kisnorbo - 4 goals
Campbell - 3 goals
Clemence - 2 goals
Stearman - 2 goals
Fryatt - 2 goals
McAuley - 2 goals

Not good enough.

(but chill out everyone, we'll be fine)

Most teams have a midfielder that scores regularly, besides 2 from Clemence and 1 from Hendrie, I don't recall any others from midfield. To me that says the midfield isn't pushing forward often enough to help the strikers out. Although if someone can find the stats for shots on goal compared to the conversion rate ...

How the feck Howard has got 6 I will never know.
If Ollie insists in having a big man upfront then play MacAuley, did more in ten minutes than Howard has done in hours.

Howard's end.

Perhaps we should have signed Kevin Lisbie. If I remember rightly, I was one of not many who wanted us to sign him when he was on trial, and I think I got hounded for it.

They've been living off scraps all feckin' season from the (large and varied) collection of goons that have played behind them, within a variety of bizarre formations and often out of position

Yes - the entire blame for whole godawful season lays at the feet of the strikers, doesn't it :icon_roll

I agree that it's an incredibly simplistic argument that you've made

Their heads too.

For the first time in many seasons the strikers have been missing opportunties, which indicates that the ball is actually getting to them.

Not entirely their fault, but I agree with Joe that they are mostly to blame.

The epitome of sourness - homer, our very own irascible Victor Meldrew.:039:

Too true, not so long ago the midfield were being blamed for not supplying enough to the forward line and this IMO is no longer the case. If you look at a lot of our games this season we have not played too badly (don't get me wrong it could have been better) and created loads of chances, we just can not stick it in the onion bag.

Overall the team have not been scoring enough goals, but strikers are paid to score and they are being given enough chances to.

Ok we have a problem putting the ball in the back of the net but i wonder where we would be now if we have had kept Fullop between the posts at the other end? Maybe one of MM biggest blunder was not coffing 3 million for fullop when we had the chance to buy him.

He MAY have saved a few more goals, but doubt this would have got us too many more points, whereas the amount of good goal scoring chances (not 50/50's) that have been squandered would have seen us much higher.

It is of course all 'ifs and buts' and all teams can say the same, what it boils down to is we are sh*t in a sh*t league and we need to be less sh*t than all the other sh*t that is around us for the next three games.
