Is this run by the Mercury? I notice the article about " Jobbers Return" contains an advert for Ahuja.co.uk who are actually robbing bastards as seen on on BBC's Inside Out and Youtube surprised they would associate themselves with this.

The Google Ads?

Whatever is in that box is done through Google using key words contained within an article on a webpage. That's why I'm seeing....

The adverts obviously change as its gone now. Thats a risky practice isnt it? Letting somebody else advertise on your website over which you have no control?

It can be quite a lucrative way of making a passive income. The mercury could be making 0.50-£1.00 per click

Assuming people notice the ads and click on them.

Non members see Google ads at the top of each page on this site. On average I get one click per 10,000 page views. So not very lucrative.

Yea not very lucrative for you.....:056:

Yesterdays earnings, not a lot, but adds up over the year.

Is all you have to do click on the ad? If you don't have to buy anything I wouldn't mind clicking on an ad now and then to help the site.

It would be unethical and against the rules to ask people to click on the Google ads on this site.
The people who pay for the ads only want to pay for people who are genuinely interested in their product.

Gotcha.
Suspicious clicking patterns could also lead to your account being suspended. Clicking on all the ads in a single block; clicking ads faster than you'd be able to read the resulting site, that sort of thing.

And as I earn a significant proportion of my income from Google ads on other websites I wouldn't want to jeopardise this because a few people have decided to help me out by clicking on lots of ads here.

While I appreciate the sentiment, please only click on an ad if you would have done so anyway, regardless of where you saw it.

If I wanted to make lots of money from this site I'd show Google ads to registered members too, or I would have taken up one of the offers I've received from companies that want to run the advertising on the site.

It ain't necessarily so.

You don't see them if you're using the mobile theme.
Maybe if you use ad blocking software too. I disagree strongly with the use of ad blocking software. Many websites rely on advertising revenue to keep going, so if everyone blocks ad's it'll just result in websites charging for access or closing down.

Yes but people / companies earn money from making effective ad-blocking software.

It's a dog eat dog world out there.

The problem is people expect everything on the internet to be free, but things have to be funded somehow.

I remember getting an email once from someone complaining about ads on one of my websites. She said she shouldn't have to see ads when she pays £15 a month to access the internet. :bang:

No 'maybe' about it.

AdBlock Plus and Firefox.

To be fair though, if I wasn't a member on here I would definitely disable it for TB so I could see the ads that help keep you in beer, fags and women :icon_lol:
