Speculation The hysterical and annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded summer 2023 rumours thread - it's started already!

Fair enough - bad enough having to go and play in the Belgian league, why the **** would you take a drop in wages as well?

Common (internet) knowledge that he’s on about £70,000 a week, so why did they even try to sign him if they weren’t prepared to pay him a decent wedge

Because £40k over the next 3 years would be a better guarantee than £70k for the rest of this season.

No chance anyone pays him anything like what he is on now when his contract is up, even as a free transfer.

We should just get rid of him and cover the difference in wages.

He's shite and will cost us more in **** ups over the season, he's a car crash waiting to happen player.

I also think that despite his good passing stats, his distribution doesn't really help us in any way and he actually slows the game around as he is constantly at walking pace.

This might have been true if he'd continue to rot on the bench, but he's an integral part of a team that will be pushing for promotion now. He'll get that offer over the summer anyway, so why leave the thick end of £1.5m on the table?

Is the problem with football world class footballers being paid enormous money and commanding enormous transfer fees, or is it that utter dross seems to command the gdp of a small nation as well?

Because he could get injured before the end of this season leaving him with no future earnings.

He'll be back on the bench as soon as Coady is fit and I think saying he has been an integral part of the team is stretching it quite a bit - he hasn't had much to do defensively but he has still been exposed.

Signing on fee plus he will get money from us for us terminating his contract early means he wouldn't really be out of pocket at all.

How many do you think he has cost us so far?

How many challenges do you think he's made to prevent goals against? I can think of at least 2 in the Hull game alone.

I'm not saying he's Bobby Moore, by the way, but he's just the pantomime villain at the moment for very little reason.

Save your breath, mate.

You do realise he turned his back on the shot that went in against Hull??

He's not done anything major as of yet, hence why I said over the course of the season and a car crash waiting to happen - give it time, it will happen.

He also not had much to do so far and I believe Souttar, or Coady when fit, would have done 'as good' a job as Vesty, if not better.

I'd rather be proven wrong as being right means we would witness so horrific football that could cost us promotion.

Relegation was an opportunity for us to get rid of overpaid players who have no long term future with us and Vesty is exactly one of those - there are plenty of alternate CBs who could do the job he has done for us but at the fraction of the cost.

I watched him pretty closely during the Hull game. He absolutely is not to blame for their goal. Or any other scored this season.

Like I say, I'm not suggesting he's a great player, just that it's pretty ludicrous how much criticism he's coming in for based on his performances this season.

I think he’s shit. Just to get that on the record.
He's defended well for the most part this season, making some excellent interceptions.

My biggest problem with him is the pace at which he moves the ball. His passing is excellent but there's just far too much dallying on the ball and sideways or backwards passing from him. Yes, there needs to be more movement ahead of him but he's also not thinking quickly enough. Coady will be much better at getting us moving forward.
