Speculation The hysterically annoying, and totally unfounded, but traditional, January 2024 rumours thread.

I think this is hugely underestimating some of our current players' abilities and/or the effect Rodgers had on them.

KDH is an excellent player and should absolutely be playing Premier League football. I'd also say that both Mavididi and Fatawu would get into half or more than half of all PL starting elevens right now. It's odd that Faes is being written off by some when he has been excellent for us on the whole. He was great in the PL when we first got him until Rodgers decided to **** about with the defence. Justin was selected for the national squad twice whilst playing for us in the PL and is another who could easily find himself in half of the PL teams currently playing.

We need to strengthen, there is no doubt about that; a striker is a must, a strong CM replacement, at least one CB; these are imperative but as a spine, we have a team more than capable of holding their own in the PL.
Yep.

He may have scored twice as many PL goals for Liverpool as he has for us but I do like him

Perfectly serviceable premier league defender.

I liked Faes when he joined, and there is some hope for him - but he needs a MUCH stronger defensive partner than Vestergaard if he's going to be playing for us next season. And probably more support generally

Again, people should go and watch Crystal Palace, Everton, Luton, Burnley, Brentford, SheffU, The Snotters etc etc

The likes of Faes, Dewberries-Small, Fatawu, Mavididi, Ricardo etc. would improve their starting teams immediately

Astonishing how people are writing these players off as not being good enough. For the top six, yes - but to stay in the League they are way more than good enough.

Our fans have turned to complete ****ing wibble this season, it’s insane

Justin - I'm a big fan but unfortunately don't think he's got back to near his best since his injuries. I'd keep him around and he almost made my list, but I don't think he fits the current system that well. If we went back to a back 4 with attacking full backs, then I'd definitely include Justin in my list of starters.

KDH - I'm almost certain he'll be starting for us next season, and I think he's been excellent this season. But I don't think he's good enough technical footballer or has the right attributes to play the lead creative role in a Premier League team. He's someone I see as a jack of all trades, master of none - decent passer, dribbler, but not great at any IMO. Again, happy for him to be here but we can't rely on him as our most creative midfielder if we're going to succeed in the Prem.

Seriously. The squad that came down would have been fine with a real manager in place. Challenging for Europe.

Well if you had watched the Crystal Palace v Everton match last night, you really wouldn’t have any concerns at all

They both made Huddersfield look good
They were both absolutely woeful. It wasn't was if they played weakened teams, with the exception of Olise those were pretty much what you'd expect to play in the PL for those clubs.

I am surprised how people seem to have written off some of players just because they got relegated.

Look at the Fulham team that went down in 20/21, it contained numerous players who looked poor in their relegation battle, only to perform to a reasonable standard when they came back up - Cairney, Decordova-Reid, Mitrovic, Ream, Reed, Robinson, Tete and Adarabioyo. Some of these may be struggling to maintain their starting position now, with increased competition, but they did a solid job in the premier league last year.

I'm sure that as well as planning transfers for the Prem all the tactical work from now will be geared towards next season. Faes, for instance, will be a considerably better player than he was last season. I'd also imagine the coaching team are watching Burnley very closely to ensure we don't repeat their mistakes. They know we need to be faster and sharper and based on their record so far I trust them to get there.
