The hysterically annoying and totally unfounded, but traditional, January 2025 rumours thread.

Daka's goals per minute ratio for the first half of the season was much better than Cannon's has been. He only played 7 games in the first half of the season though, and only a minute in one of those, scoring 4 goals. He missed a lot of time in the first half of the season due to AFCON. He also scored 6 goals for Zambia in that time.

By this stage last season Daka had scored 4 goals in 448 minutes. One goal per 112 minutes. Compared to Cannon's one goal every 206 minutes this season.

I know he gets a lot of stick, he's definitely not the finished article. But his stat's ain't bad, he's all heart and he does pull defences away, makes chances for others. His pace gets him in the right place at the right time, its just a shame that being in that position also gives him the opportunity to make a balls up.

Perhaps Tom should stay where he is. Being appreciated is important. If 11 goals so far in all competitions is not good enough for our fans, best of luck to him where he is appreciated. We just have to hope we don’t look stupid next season when we either have no one who can score at championship level, or we are still reliant on one man (pushing 40) to carry the whole weight of of our attack over an enormously busy championship season. I doubt we’ve thought about that though. We tend not to think about cliff edges until we have toppled over them. Nothing like some good old fashioned short sightedness and dumbfuckery.

The new boss said last week: “Tom’s been good all the way through (the season). Sometimes the service has been a little bit sparse between chances and we’ve got to try to get to a point when chances are coming and he’ll finish.

“He’s a certain type of striker where he’ll find space off the back and he’ll run. We saw that (against Plymouth) when he nearly got in and when he (had a collision with the goalkeeper) and I thought he’d got on the end of that and he always gets across people well.

“He understands the game. He’s only 22 and he’s a really good young player.”

Nah he’s shit apparently.:102:

Not worth it for £7m imo and we should keep him if that's all we can get as well probably spend twice as much on that for a replacement after we get relegated who is only half as good.

We are probably paying more for the season loan of Édouard. Keep him. We will be needing him next season.

Who else finds it alarming that we are in serious need of reinforcements and on 14th January 2025 the story of our transfer window is whether we sell Tom Cannon. Tom is a player signed on a 5 year contract for around £6mill amoritised over the 5 year length of his contract at about £1.2 per year for the sake of FFP. Is this really the big ****ing picture, and if we must shift him to buy players just how utterly ****ed are we?

Well, if Coulibaly joins he'll take the 25th and final place in our squad.

We have to move players out to bring players in. Selling is every bit as important as buying this month.

Getting rid of Cannon and Choudhury brings in some much needed cash, lowers the wage bill and gives us scope to add.

The more out the better as far as I'm concerned.

I don’t know the rules in great detail, but can we not simply drop people from the 25 man squad during the window. So if for example you don’t plan to play Fatawu (which we won’t because of his ACL) we can drop him. Same with Danny Ward (which we won’t again presumably because fresh air is more potent)?

Tbh, I don't think the club are in a position to do other than get some cash in and reduce expenditure. We're having to respond to an immediate situation. So that might well mean taking whatever we can get now for whoever (within reason, offer dependant) It might otherwise make sense to hang onto Cannon but I don't think we have that luxury just now. Likewise, if we got a decent enough offer for Hermansen he too would go (if he wanted to)

Not quite a fire damage, clear the decks sale (more like furniture rearrangement , for something more affordable) but everyone will have a price. There's only 2 windows and we have to use them when they're open. Not ideal but it is where we are, due to our previous 'ambition'

In that respect, I very much see where @Brown Nose is coming from.

I totally see the value in getting rid of what we can, but I’m not sure it should be assets we need for next year.

I don’t seem any sense in selling a player with an amortised value of around 1.2m a year, when 2 out of the three strikers we have are not up to it even now and we will need a good championship striker next season. At the end of the season we could just have Daka. Is that not terrifying to anyone? I see no value in selling Cannon.

Whose contracts expire in the summer? We have I think people like Ward coming to an end, and we will probably have to then balance books with sale of big assets like Hermansen and possibly even Bilal. With that ringing in our ears we should be making some signings now in the hopes we get a miracle and stay up, or at least have the fall back that we will have what we need for the championship.

Of course we can omit players. We've done it before.

It's not good though. Who was it we omitted due to injury a couple of years ago only for him to get fit and we couldn't use him in the run in?

Having players hanging around the place unable to play is poisonous.

Fan favourite James Justin, wasn’t it?
