The hysterically annoying and totally unfounded, but traditional, January 2025 rumours thread.

Surely someone is sitting there scratching their head thinking “something isn’t right, what has gone wrong?”

I guess if it’s not Rudkin thinking that, then it doesn’t matter.

The PSR rules have to take some of the blame for the way the premier league is being run by each club, look at Ipswich they have the least chance of survival because of the reduced amount of spending they can afford, and if you spend the bulk of your money on one or two players that either get injured or not as good as you anticipated then you don't have the wiggle room to replace them without breaking PSR rules, if we still had Fatawu and Ricardo we would have a better chance of staying up, yes I know we have wasted plenty on the likes of Skipp but nobody thought let's blow £20 million on this useless duffer for the lols.

Financial rules were brought in to stop clubs going bust but times have massively changed since then, our owner Top is a billionaire but compared to Newcastle and Man C he is a pauper. It's about time they scrapped the rules and allowed clubs to spend whatever they want, it would end all this nonsense of 9 year contracts and selling stuff back to yourself to make it look like something it isn't.
The next 3 clubs getting promoted to the premier league this season will all go straight back down the same as last season and the same as this season. The PSR rules are actually making it worse.

For me the simple solution is for every pound a club over spends on PSR they are fined a pound and those fines are distributed amongst the clubs that stayed within PSR, the rules will need tightening to do this but it allows the league to remain the best and most competitive in world and compensates for those clubs that are not as wealthy,

Didn’t sign anyone for the Palace game, and for the Fulham game all we have is this unknown fella who looks a bit shit but is on a contract until we all retire.

What a mess - these two home games were critical and we’ve added **** all to give us a fighting chance of getting anything

****ed
**** Sake. You’ve never seen him play before. You’re basing that opinion on **** all.

I think the point is, we should be doing proper due diligence on these players in advance of signing them on massive and long contracts to ensure the number of duffers purchased is very low.

The again, Vestergaard has been at the club for what seems like forever, and we still decided to give him another 3 years.

SOOOOOOOOOOO - basically the club is run by duffers, who are spending a duffers money on signing duffers.

That won't work, clubs will sell hotels they already own back to themselves or the Women's team or a training ground. As soon as you have "rules" then clubs will employ lawyers to get around them, look how we got away with PSR rules, just scrap them and crack on.
It's not like the fit and proper person test works well so why bother with money.

Completely understand your point and currently that is correct, that is why the rules require tightening to prevent this type of shenanigans from going on? If the Prem league actually used decent lawyers before implementing PSR I don't think we would been able to run rings around them.

My read of the Edouard/Atlanta thing is that it's a ploy to put some kind of pressure on Middlesbrough. As if to say 'we have a cheaper option available if you say no'. My guess is that neither CP, Edouard nor his agent have had any meaningful contact.

Or Edouard's agent has pinged a reminder out to any takers.

In short, don't get your hopes up. We've probably got him until the end of the season.

Supposedly we've accepted a bid for Tom Cannon in the region of £13m, a fair chunk of which is going to Everton as part of a hefty sell on clause - meaning we'll just about make our initial outlay back.

The sell-on fee will be a percentage of profit made, not the whole fee. And they're rarely more than 20%. So if we sell him for £13 million, and paid £7 million, Everton will get £1.2 million if it's a 20% sell-on clause.

There are also reports that Everton want to sign him, I've seen a figure of £10 million mentioned.

If Everton do sign him, and it’s for 10millikn, presumably we still have to pay the clause?
Weird

I think the only fair way to regulate the finances of sports teams is to limit the debt a team can have. An owner should be able to spend as much as they like as long as it's not burdened on the club.

Considering we are more than likely to be playing in the championship next season and we will be in desperate need of a No9 this makes no sense whatsoever.

Oh wait I forgot it's Leicester we will sign some turd of a player for £25 million with a 5 year contract paying £90k a week.

If we have sold him that just reeks of stupid. Proven championship quality. That’s where we are heading.
