The hysterically annoying and totally unfounded, but traditional, January 2025 rumours thread.

Why would he quit when he could get sacked with a huge payout
I'd like to think that he has a scintilla of professional pride - and it's not all about the money but as
it stands, it's a massive blot on his footballing career. With a win rate of less than 20%, he could;
a) throw hands in the air, walk away and admit that he wasn't up to the job
b )stick with it and at least try and turn it around - (maybe get his win rate above 30%?)
c) not bother, hang in there anyway - wait for the sack and the big money payput
d) retire - happy in the knowledge that he can boast, 'lads, remember the time I beat Spurs?"

^^^^ hate to say it but that's kinda my thinking too. It's horribly defeatist but arguably the most prudent path.

It's not, believe me, despite the surface appearance of it. I'm actually differentiating between the two things; ownership and running. KP have been good for the club (on balance, I know everyone doesn't see it like that) and I wouldn't want a change. On the other hand, Top (or people he trusts) have made some rank decisions. That needs sorting certainly but not by changing owner.

Consider my intention when saying "if only", I'll clarify it.

From the club's perspective, should they not accept they've made mistakes, or only identify 'learning experiences' or some other such corporate PR speak, they ought none-the-less make significant board level changes even if only to appease supporters.

I consider supporter opion to be vital because the club isn't just a business, it is its supporters too. So the club ought act in a manner that they (the club) might consider supporter appeasement. I feel the supporters are owed that level of respect and not ignored or given the silent 'we know best' treatment.

Something has been ****ed up. I think the club needs to open to supporters about the how and why of that but I don't see the need to point the finger at who. That said, they need to be seen to be taking responsibility by making changes and having Rudkin walk the plank.
Exceptional post.

Not a bad thing.

We were never, ever going to be able to bring in enough players to save the season so why bother? We ****ed it up in the summer. Save the cash, keep safe for PSR and go down with what we've got. I'd much rather this than a last minute Edouard.
Why sell Tom Cannon then?

If we are accepting relegation then we may as well have started planning for it next year too.

Can't wait for us to spend twice as much on someone not even half as good.

I wouldn't have. I made this clear at the time. But I suppose it was so if the chance arose to buy someone who genuinely improved the squad, we may have the capital to be able to do it.

May have needed to in order to cover off the PSR hit from sacking Cooper and team.
It also appears that some of our issues after 22/23 were that we had assumed we wouldn’t get relegated, so hadn’t planned for it. You would hope that this time there is at least someone in the club who recognises that it’s an issue this time.

Rob Tanner - whilst I knew the name and who he is, some of the history etc, I've not really read a great deal of his writing, or I certainly don't recall having done so. I'm starting to respect his views...

I'm sure some might see him as a apologist or worse, toady, but I read an even-handed take.

Doesn't really make sense though because if that was the case, we would just sell someone like Mads early in the summer window to get the funds in, the same way we sold Maddison last time we got relegated.

Staggering

We are broken
Yep, if we don't sign anyone and just accept relegation already I'd be asking for a refund on the remainder of my season ticket, if I had one.

I wouldn't blame Ruud for walking out tomorrow.
