Maybe im being a bit arrogant and hopeful here, but why would anyone want to move between clubs in the same division when:

a: His current club is far bigger than the new club
b: He has been promised a large spending pool for the relative division at his current club
c: Hes already got a set up going and clear plans at his current club and so itd be silly to start from scratch again
d: His current club have forward momentum and a winning mentality, the new club has a losing mentality and a backward momentum

The fact NP is making summer signings before the season has even ended is a clear indication that he has plans and isnt going anywhere

e:Because he has a Chairman who sacks Managers at the drop of a hat :102:
Don't think Boro will sack Southgate if they go down anyway.

Pearson will stay, why would he want to go to a smaller club?!

He is loved here already, I would be so suprised if he left us for someone like READING !

He won't go there but Reading are not a smaller club than us,I'd say we were about the same

I would say you are wrong.

I take it you think we are bigger than Reading ? Out of interest who would you say we are of equal standing to ? I'd say ourselves and Reading are similar both owned by one very rich man etc

I look at big clubs as those who have a big percentage of season ticket holders, at least 50% of their capacity, who regularly fill two thirds capacity, and who have strong away followings.

Newcastle is a big club, though crap at football. Wigan and Blackburn are small clubs, though more successful than Newcastle.

I would say you are wrong.

Why?

Lots of people have said we're a bigger club than Leeds because we finished above them (I think you're one of them). So using the same logic Reading are a bigger club than us. So are Blackpool, Doncaster etc....

So it's obviously a load of bollocks to use league position to decide how big a club is. Leicester are clearly a bigger club than Reading.

Based on attendances mainly, but also the general history of league standings.

Leicester is traditionally a yo-yo club between the top 2 division, id say equal to Leicester are the likes of Middlesbrough, Norwich, Birmingham, Sheff Utd, Derby, Ipswich, West Brom, possibly Man City, teams like that.

Reading are traditionally a 3rd or 4th tier club and until 3 years ago they had never been in the top tier, they are no bigger than Bradford or Carlisle really.

And Leeds are clearly bigger than Leicester

Man City ??? I meant nowadays and nowadays people from outside of Leicester lump us in with the Readings,Watfords,Hulls. It might be different in Leicester itself though

Man City ???

They may have got bigger crowds in recent years, but theyve always been a bit of a yo-yo side betwen the first and second division. Like i said it was only at a oush considering theyve actually won stuff, but i dont think they are too much bigger

I reckon Leicester could average 35-40k easily in the Prem if we had a stadium big enough, iirc last time we were there we never got below 30k. And Leicester is also the 8th biggest city in England and the 2nd biggest city with one team (after Leeds) so they have a large area of fans, Manchester is the 7th largest city yet has 2 teams and Greater Manchester has several. I dont think either is that big to have a huge number of fans outside their region.

edit: Oh, my slow internet connection added your edit, i dont think being in a division for only a few seasons changes the size of your club

Blackburn have been in the top division for the majority of their history and are one of the most successful English sides in terms of trophies, yet they are still seen as being a very small club, probably only Wigan are smaller in the Prem atm.

But its no good living in the past, nowadays outside of the city we aren't looked upon in the same light as Wigan Athletic let alone Man City.Doesn't really matter anyway

Interesting, after just a season in the third tier. :icon_cry:
How are the mighty Leeds looked upon as they start their 3rd season in the 3rd tier (I'm not sniggering, honest:icon_lol:):081::081::081:

Now can we have some order please.

There is no way that at this sensitive time, that we should be ridiculing this once mighty club. Leeds fans are feeling pain, and in no way should we be adding to their woes.

I'm going to write to Ken to tell him about the thousands of sympathy messages that are being offered, from their gutted Leicester friends...........

Do they? That's not something I've experienced. Why would they connect us with clubs and towns half our size or smaller, and not those which are more comparable such as Wolves, Sheffield United, F****t, Derby, Portsmouth, Middlesborough, etc? I don't get it, meself...

In their last season at this level they averaged 14,000 which was well up on what they were getting a few years earlier at their old ground, when they would average 4-6,000.

Was really suprised to see that they didn't even sell out their tickets for the 2nd leg of the playoff tie... thought that was disappointing

Absolutely.

I think we have a larger (although possibly more fickle) fan-base than Reading. I always think we are a similar fan-base size to West Ham.

What makes you think his <Pearson's> roots are in the North East?

He only played there for four years and he's originally from the East Midlands.

Well, that's good news. Thanks for the correction Jeff, I'd gained impressions a long time prior to this thread that he was actually from the NE. Glad to hear he isn't.
Playing for a club of no great stature for 4 seasons isn't likely to be an especially big pull.
Let's look forward to a campaign under Pearson with a soon-to-be bolstered forward line and midfield.
