Lots of talk on here about how well RK will do in the transfer market to judge his development as a manager.

Is there anybody out there who KNOWS, as opposed to all our bullsh*t guessing, how much say/influence if any, Rob Kelly had in the CL signings such as Fryatt etc?

He had a lot of influence with Johannson and McCarthy, a bit with Hume and Fryatt although CL said he already knew about Hume and watched Fryatt alot almost as soon as he came to City and first saw him for Walsall.

I doubt he would have had much if any influence on the signing of the majority of players signed from Scotland, I would have thought that Levein would have made the decision to sign the likes of Douglas, Hughes, Hamill, Sylla, MDV, Kisnorbo and Maybury, with very limited input from RK.

Almost certainly i think, also johansson was frequently made the scapegoat my CL which suggests he is not 'his' player. I get the impression that RK and CL really did very little talking and if they did CL did very little listening.

McCarthy HAD already been scouted by Levein while he was at Hearts.

As I've said before I guess there is a lot of rewriting history when it comes to the Kelly-Levein relationship (as there is with a lot of CL history. One day someone is going to say that Kelly did the teamtalk for the Sheff Utd game :icon_roll ). The good signings have been attributed to RK, the bad ones to CL. I'm sure it wasn't that clearcut.

I think Levein can take a lot of credit for the signings he made, his problem was that he seemed unable to get the best out of what seemed a decent squad, Kelly has managed to do this, however in 12/18/24 months time I am sure regardless of whether he is successful I would imagine that a couple of RK signings will no doubt be criticised. Even MON made a couple of dodgy signings in his time here.

I think people are giving CL too much credit here. This guy nearly ruined our club. If it wasn't for our board sacking him he would have done.

Yes he got the wage bill down. But believe me, any one of us could go to Manchester United or Colchester United tomorrow, reduce the wage bill and get the team into the relegation zone in our first full season.

CL has gone and good riddance, he deserves no credit for anything he did here

A Scotsman who, by the look at his career, never ventured south of the border in his playing and mangerial career till taking the job at City. And a black countryman who has... what has RK done again, apart from his youth development at Wolves and Blackburn? What's the connection between them?

i'd think that the motivation for most players signed for any club tends to fall on whether the stadium is big enough and whether the wage increase is sufficient to their current package. very few players would have heard of rob kelly and probably only after working with him they could be impressed

RK was appointed by the board to give CL knowledge of the english game, hence why he wasnt sacked along with CL, houston and black.

I'm not saying he deserves credit where it's not due. He made a mess of it, end of story. I wanted him to go as much as anyone. I'm just saying that we shouldn't change history and make out that RK was the brains in the outfit all along.

One example being that in CL's last game he moved Kisnorbo to the back. It wasn't an RK decision. (Granted, it took CL 6 months to get there, but he got there in the end)

CL may have taken some credit if he had quit instead of having to be pushed, it clearly wasnt working and something needed to change. you cant argue that some of his signings were very good (hume, fryatt, and from recent evidence kisnorbo) and then there were some that just would never have worked out, but all managers make them signings. MON signed graham fenton, alex ferguson signed cruyff, wenger signed francis jeffers....
