We used to say squabs in Hinckley if you mean when playing a game, and it gave you a temporary immunity from getting caught.

Ah those were the days - when a good game of British Bulldog meant cuts and bruises and the occassional visit to casualty.

Us girlies also had skipping and french skipping with elastic to return to if the boys got too rough.

The distant sound of a factory siren that sounded exactly the same as the WW2 air raid warning. It was probaly used to signal the start and end of a shift. Anyone of our older Leicester posters remember hearing or knowing anything about it:102:

Occasionally I used to go with my Dad to collect my Grandad from work and they had one of those sirens. I'm not THAT old though, honest :icon_redf

Tbh it seems to have disappeared within the last 10-15years. I would like to find out what location it came from. It may have been further away than i thought:102:
 
There was on on top of the county arms that used to be tested every monday afternoon until the pub shut about seven years ago :102:
 
May have heard that as well. The one that intrigued me though was almost certainly a factory siren as it always sounded early morning and late afternoon.
