If we do make the play-offs, surely battling our way in there will put us in a much better position, mentally, than Forest or Cardiff who will have had nothing to play for for 4 or 5 games and will have lost their competitive edge?

Look at how poor Reading and SheffUtd looked in last season's play-offs after being in the play-off places so comfortably at the end of the season.

The rot for Reading had set in long before the playoffs, I am a bit baffled by the logic in all of this. If Cardiff or Forest play us in the Semis then the only benefit we can get from current performances is they may be very complacent

I'm not talking about current performances, I mean if we battle into the play-offs from our current situation, the club will surely be on a high? Forest and Cardiff have nothing to play for now imo, they could easily lose momentum.

I'd still put those two as much stronger favourites than us, both are better sides and our away record against the top teams is painful reading. Pearson has 5 games left to work out (prior to kick off) what our best 11 is and that will be the test he has to pass

But our home record against the top 6 is also very good. We lost to them both away and beat them both at home, so I don't see where you are coming from at that point.

I really don't think Cardiff are much better than us personally, Forest are great at home, but very beatable away.

Its also much more likely that if we win at home and lose away that our ability to score goals may feck us over in terms of goal difference. I'd say that both teams look significantly better than us from what I've seen this season, but hopefully I am wrong

I love blind optimism... wish I had more of it :icon_lol:

Just thought I'd try and give a few people a bit of a pick me up, it seems people will still always try to twist it to make themselves feel miserable though...

The aggregate scores of those games were a draw vs Cardiff and a 1 goal deficit vs Forest thanks to the worst performance of the season. Away goal don't count. I think them games are easily winnable.

I'm not miserable at all, I just don't understand your rather strange logic that playing shite now will improve our chances in the playoffs...if anything its more likely to ensure its harder for us to get there :102:

I wasn't talking about you.

Again, I'm not taking about how we are playing now, I'm saying if we manage to battle through to the play-offs from this situation it would surely be a huge morale boost.

Alternatively it could just cause a massive sigh of relief? I still don't see how it can give us a better position mentally than Cardiff and Forest who can both put their feet up and smoke a few

I just think that it'll mean they will take their foot of the gas and it will take them something to get back into the flow during the play-offs whereas a team who still has the rush going from a tough run in will already have to be at the top of their game.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree though.

I don't think we're a particularly good side, the main thing we have had going for us this season has been the defence but that has been poor recently. They just seem a bit too reactive to disappointing results, we had that terrible run just before crimbo off the back of drawing with Scunny and losing to Forest and now the same thing has happened since we fecked up against the bin dippers.

I think we are a good side personally, it's just that our squad isn't that strong, but our first choice XI is as good as any in the division imo.

When players of the quality of Tunchev, Fryatt and Berner are out we cannot replace them though.

I dunno, I think we're decent enough but rely too much on certain players being being plucky and mentally strong and pulling the few shit ones through. Personally I'm utterly frustrated and pissed off at this current form but have to keep reminding myself about how far they've come etc.
