Let us be crystal clear. What Bassett and Wilko are doing at the moment is not a "great job". :? :?

When asked about which side of the table Dave would be sitting on for the job interview.Tim Davies gave a politicians answer.
Makes me think that DB is favourite for the job.

Makes me think Tim Davis should be on the other side of the door!

It was a funny interview. He really doesn't seem to be able to see the conflict of interest that Bassett might have being one of the interviewers for the new manager. Also he maintained under Micky we were playing fine, yet now he says we're playing the best we have been for ages. Understandable but still a contradiction. It's true what he says about Bassett doing a good job, but only comparative to Micky... it's still not a great job, or a long-term option.

Davies is hardly going to criticise Bassett publicly. It's just a media front I'm sure. Behind closed doors I expect that the board will be a little dissapointed with recent results. By giving support to Bassett, Davies is trying to instil confidence in staff and fans. I'm sure Bassett won't be the long term successor. If he were to be I think he'd have been appointed by now.

I could not agree more.

We discussed the potential conflict of interest with Tim today, following the discussion we are happy with the situation but cannot make any further comment, you will have to trust us on this one.

Over the last 10-12 yrs we have been spoilt with exciting seasons.
Play off finals defeats and victories .Promotions and relegations to and from the premier league.Exciting cup runs and even european football.Highs and lows but never dull.
This season we have it the doldrums big time.A poor exit from the league cup ,and no hope in the f.a.cup,this leaving the bread and butter of the league.Sadly it seems the bookies got it terribly wrong about our promotion prospects, as we seem to be miles off the pace.
Time i think to take a step back and ponder the future.I do not believe the current crop of players or coaching staff will take Leicester city forward. Fresh faces ,new ideas ,and a better youth development policy are needed .I do not see city returning to the premier league within the next 2-3 years.I believe our time will come again ,but theres no quick fix to our problems. In the late 70's the wheels came off the track with the end of the worthington ,glover, weller era ,but within 5 years we had Lineker ,smith, lynex. There maybe hope around the corner even if we can't see it yet.

Glad the Foxes Trust did that - sort of thing they should be doing not messing about with song sheets etc etc.

I think more or less everyone now accepts what was blindingly obvious to anyone with half a brain i.e. MA was NOT repeat NOT doing an effective job.

What is also blindingly obvious to me & it is a point made very well in the Gilbert the Filbert match report is that we have a very old team & not surprisingly it tires and that is one of the paramount reasons why we fade away in match after match.

Micky got the balance all wrong and the Board was too trusting and went along with his strategies - just as a previous board did with PT.

AS I have posted before -I see this season now as probably a write off from a promotion viewpoint (unless someone comes in and does an absolutely brilliant turn round)-but it is an opportunity to put structural things right - including saying farewell to DB.

I heard the interview and IMO Tim Davies pretty much ruled out Dave Bassettfor the job long term, he was giving praise to DB and HW for doing a good job, which after witnessing yesterdays performance they do deserve some credit.

But Tim did hint that the club would go down the same route of appointing a young up and coming manager.

To be fair to Tim Davies it was always going to be a very difficult interview to give, he has to maintain an open mind but also try to give Bassett and Wilko enough encouragement to maintain their enthusiasm.

We are playing so much better than we did in the last days of Micky Adams. Bassett and Wilkinson have done a great job to turn our performances around so quickly. When Bassett was given the job, you expected it all to be long balls, but it hasn't has it? We haven't passed the ball this much in years. Thats what you all wanted!

I agree that Bassett is not the long term answer, but i think your being unfair. He has done a very good job.

Here here... Well said.

I aint no bassett fan, but credit where its due, they have made the start needed to turn things round. As for Davies, He has to be possitive and upbeat about every thing, even if he actually feels different.

you cant deny the vast improvement not in results but in style and belief

In which case the results will come.

Please forgive me for being sceptical on all this.

I would like you to be right but I honestly don't see it that way.

My reading is as follows:

first, Micky was off track in virtually every respect - should have walked last summer - a number of us pointed out on a regular basis that nice guy as he is -he was getting it all wrong. I think even the most loyal Micky supporters would now admit that this was the case.

second, you would expect that things would pick up in the short term with a new manager in place - but we still can't win a game -even against threadbare opposition and its coming up to two home wins in eleven months - that's a pretty staggering record.

--- all the above suggests that its time for a totally fresh start and that rules out DB.

I'm fine about DB stabilising things whilst a younger, fresher face is recruited - and I anticipate that there is a major re-construction phase then needed to build a squad that can produce the 'up and at 'em' high tempo football which is Leicester City at its best.

I don't think DB can be considered for the job at all. Imagine that we do get promotion with DB and then we have to find a new manager - who doesn't know the players, the squad anything!

He then has to start from scratch! When really it would be easier to have someone in now and have them take us up!
