Hiya,

I rarely post any more (I infrequently posted in the first place) but I do still stalk the place fairly constantly and I noticed that some of you are adept at finding cheap trains.

I'm looking for a train from Leicester to Manchester Picadilly on Saturday 5th February (daytime if possible) returning on Sunday 6th February (late afternoon/evening)

Can anyone help me? The train sites I've been checking are saying £40.30.

Thanks in advance.

What you going Mancland for?( Yes, I am as nosy in real life as I am on here)

I'm going to hijack the thread and ask a train question as well- when we play Donny- how far is the ground from the station and how long would it take to get from Donny to Manchester?

Cheers!

I live up here now. Took the big leap of faith and came up to be a bloody student at Salford in September. The train is for about 15 mates that are coming up so we can celebrate my other mates birthday.

'it ain't bobbins' as Frank Sidebottom would say. Wish everyone would stop calling me a southerner though

Since I passed my driving test, I don't look into trains as much as I did.

I think Virgin go from Birmingham to Manchester. Virgin offer a discount for groups of 10 or more: http://www.virgintrains.co.uk/tickets-offers/group-travel/

Between Leicester and Birmingham: http://www.crosscountrytrains.co.uk/Tickets_and_timetables/Group_bookings.aspx

Cross Country also operate between Birmingham and Manchester. Best bet would be to go to the local station, and they'll sort you something out.

You should be able to get a group discount for so many travelling together. I don't think it's something you can do online though.

This is from the Virgin trains site:

Group of 10 or more? Call us to save up to 70% on travel tickets.

Our specialist group travel team will happily help you plan your journey to match your needs as much as possible. They'll also help you with your bookings for most rail journeys in the UK. And not just the Virgin Trains network (they're that nice), ask them for advice on:
group seating
travel on the date and time to suit your group
luggage spaces

I wouldn't recommend walking from the station to the ground. There are regular buses.

For train times see any of the train ticket websites or nationalrail.co.uk

Keepmoat is about 2 miles from the station, but there is a regular shuttle bus from the bus station (right next to the railway station). Operates both before and after the match. £1.10 single.

Doncaster to Manchester - served by the hourly TransPennine's Cleethorpes to Manchester Airport service - about 1hr 20min. Advance singles from £6.50

There are other alternatives on other train companies with a change at Sheffield or Leeds but these are both about half an hour slower and considerably more expensive for a single journey.

Oooh! So I can get to Mancland before 8pm then! Excellent! I can just get a NE coach home, only cost about £7 from Manc to Leicester if I get a cheap one.

Cheers boc, thats helped me make me mind up on what to do that night!

Trains leave Doncaster at 42 minutes past each hour. You should be able to catch the 5:42 which get you in just 2 minutes after 7.

Advance tickets for that date will be available in about 3 weeks time. If you were to book now on that train for the latest available Saturday (9th Apr), you would pay just the minimum £6.50 single fare.

I'll try to remember to watch out for them coming on sale for 30 Apr and let you know.
