Leicester City chairman Milan Mandaric is working through an "encouraging" list of applicants for the vacant manager's job.

Since Ian Holloway parted company with the club by mutual consent on Friday, Mandaric finds himself not short of options.

City's dip into the third tier of the game for the first time ever might have been a deterrent to some candidates, but Mandaric said: "I have looked at those who have expressed an interest, and I must say I find the quality in the list of names very encouraging.

"It shows that some very good people still see this club as one with potential and with the ingredients to become a top-flight side once again, even though we are currently in the third level of the game.

"They want to be given the chance to take us up again.

"So I will take my time, go through the names and give it a lot of thought because, as I have said, this is the most important decision I have ever had to make, and already there are a lot of good candidates."

Mandaric is working towards having the new man in place before the deadline he set, the second week of June, to have a new structure established and put the club on a strong foundation both on and off the pitch.

He is also looking forward to the challenge set by the fact that Leeds failed to get into the Championships by losing their play-off final against Doncaster on Sunday, and look set to be a powerful League One force again under ex-City man Gary McAllister.

Had Leeds gone up, City would have been the biggest name in League One, but Mandaric sees this as simply a great incentive for the up-coming campaign.

He said: "It adds to the competition and I am looking forward to going head to head with them for promotion.

"We are going to be very competitive next season and I believe we can take on Leeds and come out on top.

"It is going to be a very tough division but I am confident that, with the changes we are going to make, we will be a force next season. We will try and make sure we go up at the first chance."

the blue bit ,i do hope so MM ,i hope its not just more spin from you and the club !!!!

That bit suggests he hasn't learned much from all his years in football. There are 22 other teams in the division who'll be eager to put one over us and Leeds, some of them with realistic promotion ambitions of their own, but he seems to think it's down to the two bookies' favourites before the season even starts. Weren't we among the favourites for the Ch'ship last season?

Two more weeks of speculation threads. :icon_conf

Remember the days when a change of manager gave a sense of anticipation and real intrigue about who we could get?

... now replaced by a sense of déjà vu and a real intrigue about whether we can get anybody that anybody has ever heard of.

i can't even name our managers last season

:icon_eek:

who was that one with the hat?

...Mike Newell...? Apologises that this is pure, desparate (and most likely pointless) speculation, but he's got to be better than Lambert and more easier to get hold of than Davies.

Now await abuse on why he's not available or reasons why he's shit.

Anyone would think people on this forum are like a bunch of savage hyenas.

Not so at all.....but 'more easy' is more acceptable than 'more easier'.
