Wife 1.0 upgraded her laptop to 11.04 from 10.10

10.10 worked perfectly fine.

11.04 refuses to operate the wireless card.

Having spent the best part of the weekend trying to effect a solution is there something quick and easy anyone knows of? I'm reinstalling 10.10 in a minute but I really don't like to lose.

Through the terminal I've discovered there's no block on the card, the driver is up and running but the button for the wireless card refuses to light up manually even though (as far as I can work out) the card is running as it should.
