going through the Gramaphone collection are you Cate?
What's a gramaphone?
You'll probably find it's quicker and easier to find dodgy torrents of your records in MP3 format. I see no problem downloading them if you own the record. That's what I did for the stuff on most of my records.
There are a few that I've never been able to find on MP3 and I will eventually copy them all to my PC using the US turntable I got for xmas. It was a cheap one that came from Aldi but it does the job.

Yes, if Cate already has a turntable it should be possible to just plug her existing system into a PC and record things that way. The type of cable required will depend on her current system. I assumed she didn't already have something to play the records on.

I don't have a turntable; pretty much all of the ones that a google search came up with had the audacity software included for recording/editing.
