HODGSON NAMES ENGLAND SQUAD

Uncapped trio Tom Heaton, Charlie Austin and Jamie Vardy have been called up to the England squad for next month's Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia and the friendly against the Republic of Ireland but there is no place for in-form Manchester United winger Ashley Young.

Heaton, 29, has previous international experience for England having featured throughout the youth ranks from Under-16s to Under-21s.

Former Burnley and Swindon hitman Austin, 25, has been called up after scoring 17 goals for the Hoops this season, as will 28-year-old Vardy, who helped the Foxes escape relegation this season.

Goalkeepers: Robert Green, Joe Hart, Tom Heaton

Defenders: Ryan Bertrand, Gary Cahill, Nathaniel Clyne, Kieran Gibbs, Phil Jagielka, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling

Midfielders: Ross Barkley, Fabian Delph, Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana, Ryan Mason, James Milner, Raheem Sterling, Andros Townsend, Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere

Forwards: Charlie Austin, Wayne Rooney, Jamie Vardy, Danny Welbeck

Anyone know who was the last City player capped by England??

In terms of players capped while at City it's Heskey, possibly Guppy.

Right?

Brilliant news. Delighted for him.

Yeah that's what I meant, played for England whilst a City player as I was thinking surely we don't have to go as far back as Heskey?!?!

Jamie Vardy: only player to score against FC United of Manchester and Manchester United in their career.

After the 5-3 win against Man. U. I read a comment from a bitter Utd. fan where he slagged Vardy off called him crap and said that he would be playing for some League 1 team by the middle of next season. I wonder what he has to say now.

Wow, didn't expect that.

Fair play to him though and great fairtytale story. Vardy and Rooney up front... bet he never expected that to happen!
