England have beaten the Faroe Islands 7-0 in the second match of the Nordic U17 Tournament.

Coach Kenny Swain made six changes to the side that beat Finland in convincing fashion, handing three players their England debuts in the process.

Sunderland defender Michael Kay, goalkeeper Alex Smithies of Huddersfield Town and Arsenal midfielder Mark Randall all appear for the Three Lions for the first time.

The first goal of the match arrived on 14 minutes when Leicester City striker Ashley Chambers finished well to score his first England goal on his full debut.

England's early dominance saw them carve open the Faroe Islands' defence almost at will and the second goal was not long in coming.

Captain Jake Thompson of Southampton, playing in a deeper role than he did against the Finns, scored with a well-struck penalty.

After the break the floodgates well and truly opened for England - Jordan Spence started it with a goal two minutes after the break and then Chambers got two goals in three minutes to complete an impressive hat-trick.

Karl Ashton and Nathan Porritt got two in the game's closing stages to round off an impressive attacking display and once which sees them on the verge of qualifying for the Nordic Tournament final.

Hurray!
Some good news for the future of our club!
:038:
Top result. Can't we draft him in for mdv now?

who is this Joseph Magunda who was on the bench?

I think he is a Central Defender many have hopes for at the Club. ;) It's just nice to see that the other sides at City have some relevance. :) :) :icon_lol: :icon_lol: ;)

Fantastic!:038: :038: :038: :038: :038: Go on Ash!

Ashley is the nephew of a friend of mine. I actually went to a few city games with him, but he won't remember as he was about 4. Also, I've played footie with him in my mate's back garden, but again, he wasn't very old. Showed a bit of promise though....

From what I hear, this kid really is the next big thing. Getting on the pitch for the reserves at 15 is no mean feat - when was the last time that happened? He'll be pushing for the first team in the next couple of years I hope.

Maybe he's the answer this season? Stranger things have happened...

He would fit in with our current "hair" theme as he has a funny little afro!

Get in touch and ask him nicely to post on here. :icon_lol: :icon_lol: ;) Tell him well done as well. ;)

Sounds good. Lets hope he debut goes better than Wesos when he gets there!!

Are you allowed to play for the first team that young? Think you have to be at least 16. Be great to see him start playing for us now though. Push MDV out the team!

I think it's good how we have quite a few players involved in the England youth teams (Porter, Stearman, Chambers, anymore?) and for other countries too. Hopefully some of this promise will come good in our first team in a few years :)

We need to make more of our Academy - and it's good to see some promising players coming through.

We have had a lot of false dawns (Stewart, Heath, Wright, Dawson, O'Grady), so let's hope some of them make it with us as first team regulars in the future. The likes of Stearman, Sheehan, Weso, etc give us all hope in our current (and immediate future) financial plight. Although I was sad to see Piper go (and his subsequent injury problems), it does show that a good academy can pay back in a number of ways.

If and when we do make it through to the Premiership they will have to be exceptional if they are to break into the first team (without going out on loan a lot beforehand).

its a long hard slog from academy to first team and very few make it i hope we unearth some prospects sometime soon

Additional reporting. :) ;) :023:

Sunderland defender Michael Kay, goalkeeper Alex Smithies of Huddersfield Town and Arsenal midfielder Mark Randall all appeared for the Three Lions for the first time.

From the start, England dictated the tempo of the game and, though they were often frustrated by some excellent defending from the Faroe Islanders, they were rewarded for their patience with a goal on 14 minutes.

Leicester City striker Ashley Chambers, playing a year above his age group and making his first start for England at any level, finished off a good team move.

England's early dominance saw them find gaps in the Faroe Islands' defence almost at will and the second goal was not long in coming.

Again it was the livewire Leicester striker who caused havoc in the opposition defence. The 15-year-old weaved his way into the box where he was brought down by the otherwise excellent Jóan Pauli Jacobsen for a penalty which captain Jake Thompson stroked home.

England kept on attacking and went close on a couple of occasions through Everton midfielder Stephen Connor whilst Chambers fired wide with another effort and Randall and Joseph Mills also tested the reflexes of Jacobsen.

After the break the floodgates well and truly opened for England - Jordan Spence started it with a goal two minutes after the break and then Chambers got two goals in three minutes to complete an impressive hat-trick.

Derby County winger Nathan Porritt had only just come on for Jamie Chandler when he found some space down his favoured left-flank. His cross went over everyone in the box but found Kay at the back post and he headed the ball back across the face of goal.

Spence anticipated Kay's intentions and supplied a deft header of his own to beat Jacobsen and put England into a three-goal lead.

Five minutes later Chambers was back and in three scintillating minutes scored two wonderful goals to complete a memorable hat-trick.

First he drilled a shot home from 22 yards and then, two minutes later, he conjured up a magical piece of skill. Receiving the ball in the area, Chambers turned sharply, knocked the ball away from his marker and then rifled a shot past Jacobsen.

Despite a five-goal deficit, the Faroes now enjoyed their best spell of the game but England weren't finished and in the last eight minutes of the game they finished off with further goals from two substitutes.

Karl Ashton, who scored in the match against Finland, was first to a corner as he used his height to head home and then, four minutes from the end, Porritt sealed a convincing win when he cut in from the right wing and slotted a left-foot shot past Jacobsen.

I remember reading somewhere (a lot of my posts start like this :102: ) and maybe it was something that the FT said, but Ash is known about by all the (really) big clubs, as is Stearman. And Ash was one of the few players singled out by CL as being stars of the future.

Fingers crossed. Go on Ashley!:038: :038: :038:

............And Ian Thompson a few years ago...............

Biggest waste of talent I've seen. When i saw him play he was absolutely awesome, and although memories might be a bit rose tinted a number of people who worked with him and work in the game today, still think he was as good as Rooney.

Wonder where he is now?!

Played for Hinckley a few years back now - was useless at that level even - didn't seem to have his heart in it.
