I think that alcohol is important here.

It sounds like the performers used a lot of it before the recording and, probably, the only way to appreciate the recording is to consume a great ammount before playing.

It said in one of the articles that they're hoping fans will make the song a "future anthem", so it sounds like the people involved have never heard the fans sing it and have just recorded a bog standard cover version with crap backing singers.
