Peter Reid - Not sure it's a good idea, would give players a kick, but I don't think that's what they need- their confidence is shot and employing a manager who could be seen as a relegation specialist will not help.
John Gregory - Shit at Derby, where they had no money just like us, and never acheived much at Villa, why?
Martin Allen - Strikes me as the kind of guy who can give players confidence and get them playing, maybe a bit like Martin O'Neil? I would certainly be very happy to see him take charge.
Gary Mac - Great player, no real record as a manager. He'd be welcome to work as part of the coaching team, I imagine he has a lot to pass on, but I wouldn't put him in charge, especially considering our position.
George Graham - I assume he's retired, I certainly can't see him coming out of the Sky Studios for us.
Greame Souness - Could we afford him? He would certainly get the team going, he might not be interested in working within our financial constraints too.
Phil Parkinson - Must admint I haven't heard of him
Gianluca Vialli - Nearly ran Watford into the ground, he is incapable of working within our financial constraints.
Brian Little - Certainly has the track record, would the fans take him back? Would he want to come after that spitting incident?
Dion Dublin - Has no experience of managing, are we in a position to take a risk on him? No.
Mike Newell - His contract is up at the end of the season (so compensation will be cheap) and he seems to have fallen out with the board, certainly an intelligent young manager who has a bright future in the game.
Nigel Clough - Has been at Burton for years, does he have any ambition? They've been a steady conference side for years, admittedly a lot of money has gone toward the new stadium so money for the playing side has been tight (where have we heard that line before?), but aside from one great cup result hasn't done much- if that's a reason to hire him it's also a reason to keep Levein.
So, from that list I would gor for the following:
1. Mike Newell
2. Martin Allen
3. Craig Levein
Without wanting to endorse tapping up, the board need to be sure they can get their man before letting our manager go.
