Why is it that we seem to reserve our best performances for games against the better teams? There have been many comments on these boards about the lack of quality in our squad but when you look at our matches against Watford, Aston Villa and Chelsea it seems we must have some degree of quality.

As I live in Australia and never get to go to live matches I rely on sites like this for feedback. I regularly visit all of the Leicester sites to gain as much insight as I can into what is happening with the team and I've found this site to be the most informative and interesting site I've found so far.

So can anyone tell me why we can lose to teams like Sheffield United and beat Villa and score 3 against Chelski? Is it that our players lift against the bigger teams but can't be bothered against mediocre opposition? If so we need someone to motivate them. And it doesn't seem to matter who is in charge either. Under Allen our best performance was against Watford, under Megson it was against Villa and I guess Burrows was proud of the effort against Chelsea as we all were.

So does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening and how we might motivate this squad to perform with consistency for the rest of the season?

bigger bonuses at stake

They cant handle the pressure. Playing top teams gives them an escape from criticism when they lose, and If for example Leicester had lost 5-0 last night nobody would have moaned. When we play Colchester all the burden will be back on the players, and when the questions are asked they fail to deliver.

I think you've pretty much hit the nail on the proverbial noggin. Assuming these and the pressure are the reasons behind our improved performance against the high profile clubs how does one as a manager motivate a bunch of glory hunting, overpaid and unmotivated posers to perform at their best against the likes of Colchester and Preston?

He's the best on here, that's why.

:)

And just to lighten the mood of this thread a little I'd like to add that I think Frank Burrows' moustache is fantastic. Very Basil Fawlty. Come to think of it Kaebi looks a bit like Manuel too. Only he's not from Barcelona.

And doesn't have a moustache ...

Premiership teams play a different style of football, which, in turn allows us to do likewise. More time on the ball, a more open game, more space etc, whereas the rough and tumble of championship football doesn't allow us to play in that way.

I knew we were too good for this league!

The amount of time Alex and Ben Haim gave our front 2 allow us to take the pressure off now and again.

I think today's match just proved my point. Totally different attitude from the players than against Chelsea, Villa and Watford. :icon_conf
