Windows 7 mouse issue

I've never seen this before, I'm hoping one of you guys has.

My colleague has a Windows 7 desktop. Every now and again it almost freezes. The cursor still moves around fine and I can double click to open things from the desktop and shortcuts at the bottom. However, once they are open, I can't click anything within them. I can't click on any links or toolbar items in Chrome or open folders or files within the first folder I open, if that makes sense? The weirder thing is, I can tab through the selections and open folder, files or links that way, but can't click with the mouse.

Any ideas? It's only intermittently and a restart stops it, but that's a bit annoying halfway through a lesson.

Is it a USB or PS2 mouse? If it's USB, I'd try updating the driver in Device Manager or even completely uninstall it then reboot and reconnect the mouse again and it'll reinstall from scratch.

It is usb, I'll try that cheers. It just seems odd that she can click all over the place except in open windows.

Tis a weird one alright. To be honest, if that doesn't make any difference it'd probably be worth just backing up and starting from scratch. Reinstalling Windoze is usually the path of least pain and torment when it starts doing weird shit like that
