Is there anyway i can change a setting to make sure windows overrides any attempt made by the zyxel software to manage my connection? (i can't uninstall the z software as when i did this there was no wireless connection listed at all in network connections)

Oh FFS Drummin sort the bastard thing out:102:

i have no clue what fludies going on about-and based on Macky's reactions it doesn't seem like his advice was that useful!

no offence

Do you even know what that means?
That would be assigned by his router and if he wasn't getting an address he wouldn't be able to connect at all, full stop.

In fact, none of what you've written makes any sense, why am I even bothering to reply...

You are learning, well done :038::038:

I think the that you are having a problem renewing your ip address.

In the command prompt you could try these commands:

ipconfig /flushdns (flushes the dns)
ipconfig /registerdns (registers dns, must be done after flushing)

These commands may work, give them a go, www.google.com is always your friend also. :icon_bigg

Why on Earth would you think that's his problem???
Nothing he's described has suggested that.

How is flushing the dns cache going to help even if he was having a problem 'renewing the IP address'?
