Got to teach a total ****wit how to update a couple of basic webpages tomorrow.

Can anyone recommend a really simple WYSIWYG HTML editor? Kompozer isn't bad but even that is a bit too complex for the person I'm seeing.

If they're not able to cope with Kompozer, then they really shouldn't be left in front of a PC

One of the best ones I ever found when I was doing Adult Education classes was a Microsoft freebie ... Frontpage Express. You can still get it from here ...

What exactly do you have to do with this character? Why does he have to edit anything?
Could you not set him up with a blog or some simple CMS for him to log into?

Yes, granted, Frontpage is the software of Satan. However, Frontpage Express is much more friendly and doesn't put half as much crap into the HTML. But, it seems it has issues with Vista so is only an option with XP.

Given the choice, I tend to use either FirstPage (not really a WYSIWYG editor) or Dreamweaver (or good old Notepad).

Aptana is the greatest ever freebie IDE ever devised by a human being ever in the history of the planet ever.
Although, it's written in Java so may not be to everyone's taste, but feature wise it's ****ing splendid.
Spion, I really wouldn't recommend Aptana to your ****witted friend.

My personal favourite, and everyday IDE, is PHPDesigner... and while looking for the link, I've just discovered that he's released a freebie version of it. It's an older version that I haven't used, so can't vouch for it, but the current version is fecking excellent and worth paying for so should be worth a look for somebody.

It was Kompozer I went with in the end and in fairness he managed quite well.

Somebody, seriously, suggest using MS Publisher or MS Word and then exporting to HTML.

Just as an experiment, I had a go myself.

Suffice to say that I was absolutely gobsmacked at the bloated garbage that made it through to the HTML!
