Average age: 23.7 (give or take a few feckups)

This is the youngest squad I can remember in a long time, with only two players over 30. Seems like a positive, but what do you think?

This team is even younger

Schmeichel: 25

Moore: 19
St Ledger: 27 or Morgan: 28
Peltier: 25
De Laet: 23

Marshall: 21
King: 23
Drinkwater: 22
Knockaert: 20

Vardy: 25
Waghorn: 22

subs
Parkes: 20
Schlupp: 19
James: 21
Futacs: 22
Taft: 19
Smith: 19

As long as the coaching and support is right, I don't think that it's an issue. Not sure if we've replaced Powell properly yet though.

I suspect that this thread may well prove the old adage that one can prove anything with statistics, but looking at the players that I would expect to contain 95% plus of the first team selections (obviously excluding any additional signings/sales!) is:

Wellens: 32
Konchesky: 31
Dyer: 29
Danns: 29
Morgan: 28
Whitbread: 28
Beckford: 28
Gallagher: 27
St Ledger: 27
Nugent: 27
Peltier: 25
Schmeichel: 25
Vardy: 25
King: 23
De Laet: 23
Futacs: 22
Drinkwater: 22
Marshall: 21
James: 21

The average age now becomes 25.94

Dessie was making a (valid) point about the average age of the squad, not making up who he thinks might (or might not) get the most game time

True but the thread title suggests that Dessie is saying players such as Panayiotou will influence 'wins' which he won't. Every team will have young prospects, they are not the ones who 'win anything'

True but the thread title suggests that Dessie is making use of a tired old platitudinal phrase to title a thread relating to mean squad age

Good point

Like Leeds away last season?

Like Leeds away last season?

He played in a meaningless game at the end of the season and the ball bounced off him into the goal, he's hardly going to start every game because of that. I very much doubt we'll see that much of him this season.

As for me i think youngsters are great in a team ,but i feel that all the better teams have at least 3 or 4 experienced players in there teams

I seem to recall he had a bit of a hand in the outcome at Leeds

But did he have a hand in winning the game?
