"The three players listed as goalkeepers can only play as goalkeepers during the World Cup and cannot play outfield. This will be communicated to the teams in the team arrival meetings and will be enforced on match days."

Never knew that that was actually a rule.

what if you *genuinely* have a player that can play in goal or up front?

Is there a rule that you must name a goalkeeper on the bench, or else what would happen if he got sent off or injured, and an outfield player cannot play in goal?

I never realised you HAD to name 3 keepers.

David James has played outfield for Portsmouth at some point hasn't he?
I'm pretty sure that rule is only being enforced/put in place because North Korea have tried to cheat the system by naming him as a keeper

I believe the rule has been in place for a while, but it's never really been challenged.

Surely it's a manager's decision who goes into a squad. If he wants 2 keepers or 6 keepers, let him take them. FIFA are ****ing idiots.

So it's fair that everybody else has 3 keepers? Especially as you would always be allowed a replacement if all your keepers are injured.Iin that case everyone would take 1 keeper and more outfield players.

If a manager takes 2 keepers and they both get injured, that's his fault.

Maybe, but at present they would always be allowed an emergency keeper. QED, that's why they make them take three, to try to avoid the circumstance ever arising.

they have to pick 3 keepers that's why it is a 23 man squad and not 22 as it used to be
