I think it is illuminating that out of our 'bright young things' only taylor is in any of the performance squads even with some of the categories deliberately including people with few first class matches.

Illuminating in that it throws light on the delusion practiced at Grace Road. My take is that only Taylor is up there with the best of the promising youngsters of yesteryears at Grace Road who went on to make a name in the game. To me its never been easier for youngsters of moderate talent to get into the first team - perhaps I'm being a bit harsh, but time will tell.

Well they can hardly say that most of these kids are currently good players at Everards Premier League and County seconds levels but we don't think too many of them will make the grade in the first class game.

This would be unfair to the kids who are no doubt mad keen to try to make the grade - and would throw doubt on the selection policy.

I actually think that the powers that be have smelt the coffee anyway and look to be trying to shore things up with outsiders.

Best chance is if other counties are not prepared to offer him a 3 years deal - obviously he is at the stage of his career when that would be very important.

We can offer him the captaincy and could be closer to Yorkshire. They're a better side and will probably have Panesar their next season too.
