This was in the days before segregated crowds. All the tickets at Leicester had gone and I heard that some were going to be available during halftime of the Millwall Reserves v Charlton Reserves midweek before the game. This was only the day after I passed my driving test but somehow I managed to persuade my dad to lend me the car on the promise that I would get him a ticket too.

I went to both the 1969 and 1985 cup games.

First one was as a 12 year old with my dad, who was from Bermondsey and a regular at The Den before the war, he moved when he came out of the army and it was his first time back, said nothing had changed.

In 85 I went with a bloke I worked with who was a Millwall supporter and a bunch of his mates. They were OK and if the score had been different things would have still been alright. I still kept my mouth shut though.

I went in 85. Only time I've ever been in a crowd that was bricked by 10 year olds.

My mate had the best story though (didn't know him at the time, he related the tale later) It was a ****ing freezing day, he got to the turnstile which was occupied by a woman in her late 60s/early 70s. He cheerfully remarked "nice day for it luv"

To which she replied (talking around the fag in her mouth) " Fack orf you norvern **** "
