Repeating things is something a moron can do, it's not creative.

Getting pretty excited now. Snowboarding trip number 1 of the year is fast approaching (Saturday) :038: Two more booked in as well :icon_bigg

Does anybody else on here go skiing/boarding? (I thought BBB said he normally went pre-kids, are you back on it yet?)

I don't, but where you going anyway?

Flaine and Les Gets (twice). I'd norally not want to go to the same place twice in the same season but both of those trips are with my daughters and it's a great resort for my eldest to enjoy skiing and for me to teach my youngest daughter too.

Flaine certainly is a bit concrete and doesn't have the scenic charm of some alpine villages but it is a good place for beginners.

I used to love ski-ing. Unfortunately being taken off a mountain on a stretcher stuffed my confidence even after my knee was repaired.

In fairness Siouxsie, I'm going to Flaine with 4 other blokes so concrete doesn't really worry me. I realise it's not the nightlife capital of the world, but so long as there's one decent bar (with a backup just in case) then that's fine. I've been skiing and then boarding since I was a kid and this is a resort we've not been to yet, so thought we might as well chalk it off.

You may remember (but probably not) the pictures of my arm after my trip last year. Suffice to say it hasn't put me off, at the end of the day if I worried too much about injuring myself I wouldn't go at all. I absolutely love the mountains and it's the only place I truly wish I'd lived before settling down.

Did you ski much before your accident?

I can't describe just how jealous I am, in fact I cant even look at your name right now!!! :icon_cry:

A few people I know have gone this year, I just cant afford it at the mo. Next year however, I'm back on it, big style! Till then, MK Dome will have to suffice.

:056:As much as you enjoy going for yourself, it doesn't come close to watching your kids skiing. Keep that in your mind cos it's feckin amazing when they bomb down ahead of you. You might miss going in the short term, but it's worth it in the long run. If I could work out how to post a video on here of my daughter skiing then I would do.

Don't forget that you can send your Predictions League entries in advance for periods that you will be away. PM me your dates and I will send you the relevant fixtures. When you return your predictions, I will file them away until it is time to put them in the appropriate thread when I open it. No need to miss out on any points when you're enjoying the snow/sand/sun or eeerrr... business.

I went to Flaine 2 years ago, and I have to agree with Siouxsie, it is very concrete, the night life is a bit pants, but it is ok for a few drinks, and the slopes are definitely for beginners. However I did really enjoy my time there. Oh and there is one run, I cant remember what it is called, its the most famous run there and everyone will do it, but it is about 14km long, great fun, not easy for boarding as there is quite a bit of flat, but I would definitely recommend it. Where are you staying?

You will enjoy Flaine. When we went, for the first half of the week, there was hardly anyone there, so there were times when it was just me and my mate on a mountain, it was amazing, so peaceful, so beautiful and we could just cruise around, stop where you like and soak up the views!

I broke my ribs Boarding in Les Deux Alps. Went in the summer and boarded a glassier, was my first boarding holiday. It was that bad there were patches of rocks we had to board over, and we had booked to have lessons one day, the instructor met us at the top and said nope, I'm not doing this its too dangerous, and off he went. He was right too, as I found out when I caught a toe edge, went face first down a sheet of ice, winding myself, breaking my ribs, smacking the back of my head with the edge of my board and twisting my knee. I had to miss a day, but for the other 5 days, I just had to grin and bare it. Would never put me off though, its the most amazing, adrenalin pumping thing I have done. Love it!!!

I have already looked into getting the little man on some ski's, couple of years yet though. Have talked the Mrs into having lessons too, so when the boy is old enough, we will both be capable of looking after him on the slopes. Then I'm strapping him onto a board and he can decide which one he prefers.

Seriously?! With some of the weirdos that prowl this forum.... I'd be very careful if I were you :icon_wink

I've been boarding now for 15 years, but before that I used to ski. I think it's a good idea for kids to learn to ski first (as you suggest), before trying boarding. They can get used to how the mountain works and how to tackle pistes before learning to board, which, in the early days, can give you a real pounding when you fall.

We're staying in Flaine Forum. It appears to be fairly central so pretty easy to stumble home after a few quiet drinks in the evening.

So far I've been to (off the top of me head):
Alpe D'Huez x 3
Les Deux Alpes
Megeve
St Gervais x 4
Les Gets
Morzine x 5
Bulgaria x 2
Val D'Isere x 2
Sauze D'Oulx
Valloire
Chatel
Serre Chevalier x 3
Val Thorens x 2

We just wanted to try somewhere different really but could only be bothered with a short transfer. I love going to new places, so thought we'd give Flaine a go. It's got over 3m of the snow at the top and the description of the off-piste is currently 'powder' :038:

We stayed in Club Hotel le Totem, to be honest, the rooms were a bit shit, just concrete prison cells, but the food they put on was first class, lovely 3 course meals every night and a buffet lunch and Breakfast, was really good! And the hotels are ski to door, which is great, no long walks to the piste.

3m of snow and currently powder you say.... are you trying to make me cry?

I would really love to go to Morzine, we nearly went last year a SCUK were doing a big holiday there, a 5 star catered chalet, was pretty cheap too, plus going with loads of people you dont know would be quite cool. But we opted for Andorra instead as we had a couple of my mates girlfriends with us. Was their first holiday so were pretty nervous and didn't fancy going with unknown people. Really enjoyed Andorra though, had a couple of sketchy days were you couldnt see more than 10 feet in front of you, but most of the time it was sunshine, so picturesque, really beautiful and heavy snow every day.

I learnt to ski when I lived in France 26 years ago now, then stopped until the girls were old enough to learn - and unlike the french kids they didn't start at 3!! The first place I took them to ski was Flaine.

I was never a brilliant skier and by the end my girls were much better than I was. I tore my cruciates coming down a red/black in a blizzard on a very icy morning. I was never happy doing the more difficult slopes and was always happier pootling around on blues.I was with a guide luckily as he radioed for the emergency services.

I've been feeling bollocks for a while but Episode 1 Series 2 of the IT Crowd has fair perked me up.
