Why should religious opinions get a free pass?
If you tell me that the world is less than 10,000 years old I can call you a fool - except if you say your opinion comes from religion when I am supposed to respect your views.

I am an Islamophobe. I am also a Catholicophobe, a Protestantophobe a Conservativeophobe and a LibDemophobe. These are all belief systems that try and push their views at other people. No child is born with these beliefs. Why should I respect the first three opinions and not the last two. I strongly believe in atheism and Old Labour values. These are both controversial and people who disagree have a right to denounce them - and I have good friends who do.

The idea that religious leaders have no power is ludicrous. Has Will Self ever heard of Sharia Law? Tell the pro-choice lobby in America that they are not facing the power of the Catholic Church. In this country it is religion that leads the attack on "assisted dying."

A few weeks ago I was in the Camp de Fiori in Rome where a man called Giordano Bruno was burned alive in 1600. His crime was to question the Catholic view that the Sun went round the Earth. The respectable people of Rome at the time felt burning him was quite right. Good men do good things. Evil men do evil things. But if you want a good man to do evil things give him faith.

As an old time Socialist I found it disquieting that it was Mrs Thatcher who condemned the burning of Salmon Rushdie's book while the left made excuses for it. I find it offensive that someone who claims to be left wing should want to limit satire but Will Self is perfectly entitled to offend me.

That's me and Mrs Jeff on our daily walk to the chip shop. I appear to have lost some weight.

Religious people in this country (Christians in particular) have been in a privileged position for hundreds of years, and as soon as you take away some of those privileges and treat them like everyone else, they claim they're being discriminated against. Idiots.

I used to work with a Christian woman who was reluctant to give someone a day off work for Eid. She said "You won't find me asking for days off work because of my religion". When I asked her if she was working at xmas and Easter, despite the building being closed, she didn't understand the point I was making. Idiot.

Tell you what I find offensive - the phrase "the Muslim community" and limp-brained ****s who demand they apologise for everything that ever happens involving a Muslim.

Any Christians here? How about you apologise for the Westbro' baptists and Anders Behring Breivik. And Daves: I'm not hearing any of you apologising for David Berkowitz, Dave Lee Roth's hair or the music of David Hasselhoff.

As a Brit of Irish ancestry I'm confused as to what I need to be apologising for at the moment. The invading Ireland shit or IRA bombings? I probably need to consult the Mail.

Anonymous Declares War Over Charlie Hebdo Attack
mpicpp an hour ago 57
mpicpp writes with news that hackers claiming to represent Anonymous have declared war on terrorists. They pledged to take down websites and social media accounts being used by jihadists as retaliation for the Charlie Hebdo attack. They said, "It is clear that some people do not want, in a free world, this inviolable and sacred right to express in any way one's opinions. Anonymous will never leave this right violated by obscurantism and mysticism. We will fight always and everywhere the enemies of freedom of speech. ... Freedom of speech and opinion is a non-negotiable thing, to tackle it is to attack democracy. Expect a massive frontal reaction from us because the struggle for the defense of those freedoms is the foundation of our movement.

There is an irony here which I think enthasises my point.

When you find out please let me know, I'll need to apologise too.

On behalf of Blaarev and myself, I would like to apologise for our forefathers' somewhat unorderly behaviour during trips to the British Isles.

In this case Fitz just a general apology would be fine for forcing the Beeb to dub over Gerry Adams voice with someone of an Irish accent. :icon_lol:
