Downing would be a very solid signing. Very experienced prem player. 7 million seems a lot for a 31 year old. But I think he would be an asset.

At 31 years old when the season starts, Downing is exactly the kind of player that you bring in on a free to add some experience.

£7m seems like a lot to me.

At 31 certainly by his best, at£7 million, he is far to expensive. As FF says he is an impact player put on to create a few problems for the opposition but he is not a ninety minute man any longer. There must be younger better options available at that price.

I'm not a fan of Downing, I know he's been better since moving into the middle and he gets involved more, but don't think he creates enough.

Never rated Downing. As someone else said, free maybe but £7m is steep..

Doubt we will get NZonzi, Barnetta would be class on a free and Downing for £7m is slightly steep but he's still a considerable improvement to the squad.
