in answer to my own question Derek Hines was the last person to reach 100 league goals for us at any level back in 1961, Lineker was 5 short when he left

He was doing very un-Vardy like things in the game until that gift of a 2nd goal. He's been a passenger in many games and not getting the service is bound to affect. He needed that bit of luck and it didn't take long to get back to his old self with his 2nd of the day.
