I hadn't realised how many of our young players have tipped over the U21 rule this season (Chilwell, Ndidi, Maddison, Iheanacho Gray and Kapustka).

Kapustka and Ulloa have disappeared from the official site list of players. Slimani has been pictured in Turkey so that seems to be about done.

The remaining decisions will be determined by who we can move on. If there are any takers for Mendy, Elder, Jakupovic, Simpson, Benaloune, King or James, surely we'll just take whatever we can.

There have been whispers that Jakupovic isn't the most popular among the coaches/players and it was telling that he didn't even travel to Manchester. Do we really need a third senior keeper anyway?

Of the defenders, I'd rather keep Elder than Simpson or Benaloune. We're better prepared for cover in the right and centre than we are the left side. Simpson and Benaloune are also both in their final years contract so we may as well loan/pay off. Elder may still have something to offer us.

I'm not dismissing Simpson's contribution to the club. He's just not suited to what Puel is doing and there is no point pretending otherwise. If it is also true that he has annoyed Puel with some disciplinary breaches (as I read towards the end of last season), it can't be a surprise to him either.

If we only lose one midfielder it looks most likely to be King. His demotion from number 10 to 37 is pretty indicative, as was him being loaned out when Puel chose James over him last season. It would make sense to keep Mendy and see how he does under Puel given their history. Personally, I'd keep King and not give James a place on the evidence of reliability.

My squad would be:

Schmeichel, Ward, Ricardo, Amartey, Soyuncu, Maguire, Morgan, Evans, Fuchs, Chilwell, Elder, Ndidi, Iborra, Silva, Mendy, King, Albrighton, Diabate, Gray, Maddison, Ghezzal, Okazaki, Iheanacho, Vardy

Leaving one available place for James if these depart: Jakupovic, Simpson, Benaloune, Kapustka, Ulloa and Slimani.

I just can't imagine the thought process of someone who thought James would be a better choice than King. Fifteen competitive games for us in the last three seasons, and 18 for Barnsley. Absolutely mindblowing decision.
