Why does everyone go on about Bloomfield and MON when Gillies was about 20 times more successful than either?

In fairness, why shouldn't all of them be celebrated and remembered?

When I'm an even older ****, I know I'll be waxing lyrical about MO'N to whoever will listen because it's a reference point that I can relate to.
Bloomfield* & Gillies are before my time so I can't really bore people with stuff that I can't relate to directly.

*I was alive, but only really know those days from people that were still raving about his legacy when I was a kid

I know, I was saying it's silly that Gillies never seems to remembered as well as MON and Bloomfield despite being more successful than either.

Age is the obvious answer to that then I 'spose.

I've heard Boc's always going on about Matt Gillies.

I remember when Bloomfield came he brought in Birchenall as a centreforward and then when Worthington came Birchenall moved back to become a very effective midfieldc player. But I cannot for the life of me remember who played alongside Birchenall and Worthington as a second striker before Earle came.

Wasn't it Earle's arrival that led to Birchenall taking a deeper role rather than Worthington's? I think the other player you are trying to think of is probably Jon Sammels.

Sammels was never a forward but a midfielder. I remember all the hype about him scoring his 50th career league goal. Not the amount of goals you would expect an ex Arsenal bloke to have amassed

I've just watched the videos in this thread after watching the England - Brazil game.

It's hard to compare players from different times but that donkey Shaun Wright-Phillips has (apart from running speed) none of Keith Weller's general skill or ability.
