I'll admit I have a bit of a dislike for Leicester City but I would have no problem with Milan buying them. After all, there's no guarantee that he can make them a Premiership club. He may have done it for us but it took him 5 years to do it and it could be argued that he got lucky by appointing Harry Redknapp to do that. His other managerial choices haven't exactly bore fruit have they?

It could also be argued that if it wasn't for Mandaric getting lucky in having Alexandre Gaydamak buy his stake in the club, his investment wouldn't have kept us up and we would have gone down, Harry would have left and we would have ultimately been back at square one. So even if Milan did take over the Foxes, it wouldn't neccessarily be a great thing for them on the pitch.

What he should do is make Leicester financially stable, like he did for us and all Pompey fans will be forever grateful to Milan for saving this club. Even if he does make Leicester a Premiership club then why should that bother us? Despite the events of 1993 look at what has happened to both clubs since. Who has had the better time in the long run? We are sitting pretty in the top 4 of the Premiership whilst Leicester are currently at Southampton's level.

I'm personally glad that Milan has chosen to stay in English football and has not disappeared into the wilderness of another country. It'll be easier to see how the Serb is getting along post-Pompey and although he could have chosen a club that Pompey don't dislike, I'm sure there would be no shortage of well-wishers in Portsmouth hoping he does well for himself whether it benefits a "rival club" or not.

He always had time for Pompey fans and even if he does get tied to Leicester, the man himself has said that Pompey will forever be his #1 club. Who knows? Having Milan at the helm might ease any animosity between Pompey and Leicester fans and that can only be a good thing. I can just imagine how Milan would feel if he took over at the Walkers and oversaw them defeat Southampton in seasons to come.

Just a snapshot. If you'd have looked at the status in 2000 it would have been completely different, and it will be different in 3 years time. Football moves on.

Over the period as a whole since 93

City = 3 cup finals, 2 wins, 2 seasons in Europe. 5 top 10 finishes.

South Coast tossers = no cups, no top 10 finishes and one lucky start to the season which isn't any better than we achieved in 2000 - the year before we went down.

He says he doesnt like us foxes, well what have we done to pompey?!

Beat them in the play-off semis in 93 after they finished 3rd in the table by miles. Bit of a heated affair in Portsmouth afterwards by all account

Then the run-in when we were both easily promoted in 2003 didn't help especially after we beat them on a waterlogged Fratton Park

Is there anything else specifically that I've missed or is just general animosity?

yeah a heated affair when grown blokes were kicking and punching kids
:098: tossers

Some of it stems back as far as 1971 when we won the old second division at their place and the pitch invasion afterwards.

They are probably still narked at losing 10-0 to us in 1928. Some people just can't get over the past :icon_roll :icon_roll

Always stemed from that play-off semi, for events at Pompey and the City Ground.

It's been going on far longer than that. There was an almighty battle before and after a pre-season friendly in 1969. I finished up getting isolated from the other City fans and having to shin over a wall into a backyard for safety. Got collected in a police van and taken back to the coach. That was my first visit to Portsmouth but other people who were there said they had always had trouble with Portsmouth.

But that wasn't specifically a Leicester thing - most visiting supporters at that time used to get much the same in varying degrees! They have had, and still have to some extent, a Millwallesque section of supporters, many of whom don't actually attend the games, just go along for the ruck

I blame the cup semi-final of 1949 when they werer at the top of the league and we were fighting against relegation to the third tier (sounds familiar.....:icon_bigg )

When you're climbing over a 7-foot wall with the human equivalent of a pit-bull terrier snapping at your ankles, it's pretyy difficult to imagine that he's reall after just anybody!
:icon_sad: :icon_wink

I do agree that Portsmouth had a reputuation for welcoming all away support in 'their own special way' but I do remember that even then they had 'special' feelings for Leicester.

You probably pissed him of when you pointed out that he had in fact spelt Portsmouth wrong on the tattoo on his forehead

Even further back than that, we beat them in the FA cup smei final back in the 1920's that stopped them winning the league and cup double. They hate us for that too!!
