It worked fine last year. Pearson didn't get overconfident then, I seem to recall he kept emphasising that getting the players match-fit was the main purpose of the friendlies. Whatever results you get pre season against any team, regardless of their supposed quality, means absolutely diddly-squat as to how the new season will go IMO.

Spot on RS. I couldn't give two shits who we play in friendlies, as long as we're right for the first day of the season. After all, that is the whole point of having a pre-season! It's not just to keep the fans entertained by watching Real Whoever come over (for a large fee) and whoop our sorry asses.
