Speculation has risen in the past few weeks that Leicester City are looking to sign Northampton Town's powerhouse striker Adebayo Akinfenwa.

Fans favourite Bayo has scored 9 goals in all competitions this season for the Cobblers, and is their top goalscorer.

However, three times in recent weeks stories have popped up in national newspapers suggesting that Foxes manager Nigel Pearson is looking to strengthen his squad in their push for the Championship, and Akinfenwa is top of his wishlist.

Leicester only have one big strong striker who does all the donkey work, and that is former Cobbler Steve Howard. Pearson might like to look for back-up for Howard, as without the big man they would have no striker who could compliment League One's top goal scorer Matty Fryatt.

However money could be an issue for Leicester as Northampton may ask for as much as £500,000 for the former Swansea frontman. This may be a problem for the Foxes as they have lost their two first choice centre backs, and might want to invest in defence rather than attack.

Although no official bid has been made, Cobblers fans will no doubt be sweating for the final 5 days of the transfer window and praying that no bids come in for their beloved Bayo.

Didnt play for Cobblers yesterday (not even sub) his signing would provide striker back-up makes sense

He'll never fit in here, much the same as if we signed a player named JD Cumpball of Jenior Levis.

I do worry if Howard got a bad injury. Plus he plays every week.

I dont know enough about this guy to comment but my initial reaction is I am not keen. He is a bit of a journey man already and I know he gets a lot of stick about his weight.

But I trust old Nige he doesnt seem to have got much wrong so far!

We don't want another AA......:018:

Is the No. 22 shirt available?

:icon_conf

He played yesterday and was taken off in the 71st minute.

He scored 7/10 in the NOTW's player ratings.

he is a good player heard a bit about him and he has scored more than howard should be a good player

WTF has that got to do with it?

This stupid mentality that because he wears No9 he has to be scoring all the time. Look at the other work he does on and off the ball, look at what he sets up........:icon_roll:icon_roll:icon_roll

I don't know much about this guy but one thing that I can say is that, for the first time in.....well some time, I trust the manager's judgement. If Nige thinks he's good enough then so do I :icon_bigg

I'm sure I saw Colin Wan*er on Sky's Big League Weekend a couple of weeks ago saying that Akinfenwa was one of those players that seemed to score the sort of goals where he doesn't have time to think about the finish.....give him some time and 9 times out of ten he'll miss it.

Not another Ade Akinbadbuy! It does sound similiar to Adebayor, you never know :icon_lol:

Strikers aren't all about goals. Look at Emile Heskey, just signed for a potential top 4 club and he hardly scores. Howard has been one of our better players so far this season.
