On today's showing, Slimani is going to be a massive loss.

Which, by the way, we should all have known considering he has spent his career as lone striker. He has to have time to adopt to two up front.
Play him as lone striker and lo and behold... he has an excellent game.

What is the story with Schlupp?

He was such a useful player for us last season. Unlike Albrighton, he could cover his full back and provide a threat going forward. I rated him really highly. He's quick, strong and versatile. He was also very highly rated by the club too as they gave him a very lucrative long term deal on £80k a week and, at the time, he was the joint top paid player with Vardy. He appeared in three quarters of the Premier League games we'd played before this season. This season he's been poor but so have many others from last season. It seems like he wanted to move to West Brom in the summer and we wouldn't let him go.

Is he one of those whose head has gone following the league win?

Then the Porto first half 'performance' happened and he's been dumped from the squad ever since.

24 years old, home grown, over 100 appearances for us, full international, and completely AWOL! Am I the only one that gives a shit?

No, Lako does, but for different reasons.

What is the story with Schlupp? <snip> Am I the only one that gives a shit?

Hmm, dunno. I suspect on balance, I do give a shit, though mainly I wonder what on earth has happened to him.

For years, he was 'up and coming', one for the future. And it's just not happened. The future arrived minus Jeff Schlupp.

I rated him in the past, laughed at his abysmal shooting... because that was Jeff. You could have a laugh because of the other things he brought to the game. Strong, quick, direct, got stuck in. That Jeff seems to have gone. Clearly the talent hasn't gone so something's changed in his head. He doesn't seem to want it anymore. It's a real shame but I guess it is his choice.

What's you source for that? Never seen it suggested he's on that kind of money and given that he's never really held down a first team spot I would highly doubt the club would have seen fit to pay him as much as a player that had just broken the record for consecutive goals and was wanted by top clubs.

On your wider point, its well known that Jeff and Liam Moore were best mates, I wonder if LM going to Reading has had an effect?

All the players salaries were published around Feb/March last year online. Can't find the original source that I remember seeing at the time but this is the list (before all the new contracts in the summer):

It even says in the article that they've no idea where the information came from.

I had you pegged as being at least late 30s maybe 40s but the way in which you constantly belive everything that you read in the papers or use rumours as a basis for being angry/annoyed etc with seemingly no filter leads me to reevaluate.

Offering Schlupp £80k a week when we were tipped for relegation would make Sven look like Scrooge McDuck. Can't be anywhere near that much.

It's not even remotely close

Some people will believe anything

This is thunderfuckingly funny BN

Has someone hid the medication again?

I think you have answered your own question.

Ranieri was asked a couple of weeks ago why he wasn't featuring. He said he is playing him in the U23's so he is fit and ready when called upon.

Too me, that's a euphemism for saying 'I will never pick him for this team ever again. Not while I am Pope.'

I have never ever been critical of any player over the years as far as I can recall, but his performance - actually appearance is a better word - against Porto was dreadful in its attitude and infected and affected the rest of the players in that game.

I'm with BN to a point (pretty much up until the suggestion Schlupp is on £80k a week!).

I think Schlupp is a useful squad player and always served a purpose in a number of positions. He's strong, quick, direct. Gets forward well, but can also defend. But unfortunately he lacks the end product. Shooting and crossing both let him down. Generally I think he's good to have because of his versatility and energy he brings, he's a good impact sub usually.

But he seems to have gone off the boil this season. To me it's probably a case of him wanting more game time and now being frustrated he's not had it or a move, but he hasn't justified getting more game time when he's been given a chance.

If he wants to go or if we get a decent offer I'd let him go, but I would be a little sad to see him leave.

His problem is his lack of intelligence and more specifically gametime intelligence. He has some great attributes but he has failed because he's started to believe he's the complete player. This has been mostly fueled by the West Brom offer. Retrospectivelly we should have sold him then. I was wrong thinking he'd evolve.

What a reliable source you have there. The Sun dreamteam.

There are multiple sources online that say the same figure - I just linked the first one I found when I was asked to. They were published somewhere else (Daily something or other) and the original article included salaries for Ranieri and others too. I don't think that the figures attributed to the players at the time look made up. Why would they be?

Having said that, none of this is relevant to the point I was making about Schlupp and his sudden decline.
