News from FT that Andy King has snubbed Aston Villa to stay here...

Many won't be, but I am delighted he has made that choice actually.

Anyone know any more on this?

Great stuff if true, I like him.

He wouldn't get a look-in in their team at the minute though.

I think if that is true, it's something the club would tell us, as it's a very positive thing...

I'm a fan of King and think he gets far too much criticism on here. He's not always fantastic, but certainly isn't as bad as people make out when I've seen him.

Funny how people like Martin O'Neil, Nigel Pearson and John Toshack all recognise quality in him isn't it?

MON saw quality in Graham Fenton, Pearson saw quality in Gallagher.. Toshack is Welsh.

I am confused. When the Academy were booed, we had a thread complaining (quite correctly) about the lack of support for our young players: why then do we not give them some encouragement when they get into the first team?
Stearman, Mattock and King have all been slated. Two of them left for teams that are either in the Prem, or with a good shout at getting therein and some are wishing that the third had done the same!
The fault in midfield cannot be laid at King's feet; more experienced players should be putting more in and, we have a lightweight midfield anyway - who is in there who can put in a tackle?

But Stearman and Mattock are not good enough for Premiership level. Most West Brom fans also think Mattock is shite and Stearman had a good first half of a season at Wolves and has gone well off since then.

Our fans do not slag off young players like Hobbs or Morrison, in fact they are roundly praised, because they show real potential and ability.

Hobbs and Morrison were bought in, they did not come through the youth system.
Correct me if I am wrong (not an unknown situation) but King has scored more goals than the rest of our central midfielders (Oakley, Wellens and, er... er....) put together. I know that he doesn't put in a lot of tackles, but that's not his game - or Oakley's, or Wellens so, it's left to er..., er.... to do that.

I quite like King, I agree, I was just saying our fans don't boo all our young players, I don't think it makes a difference whether they're bought in or not.

I don't think Paul Gallagher is too bad actually BG, a run of games would help him to be fair.

I would agree that he is too good a player to be languishing in the reserves but, I have always been puzzled by his signing: he must have cost a pretty penny but, where was he expected to slot in? As an attacking midfield player he is even less able to get back and ball win than Wellens or King and, he is not a target man so, he seems to be vying for one striker's place with Waghorne and Fryatt.

He can't take a corner that's for sure.
