Well, the regular beer sold at the stadium formerly known as the Walkers isn't really much stronger and cheaper, is it?

The Falcon was rather expensive getting it at the ground, but they sell bigger cans at local 7-11s for 22, 23 Kroner.

Whether bought at the ground, in a corner shop or in a bar; whether in small cans, big cans or glasses; whether weak or strong - beer (and just about everything else) is expensive in Sweden. Perhaps not so expensive when compared with your Swiss prices, but an English man is hardly likely to compare it with Swiss prices.

The beer at the Walkers would have been at least 3.5% (a quarter stronger), a full pint and cheaper.

Like I mentioned before, Sweden CAN be expensive, but doesn't have to be - Norway's much worse.

As for Stockholm:
Public Transportation - cheap (280 Kroner for a 7-day pass, which is valid for bus, tram and metro; compare that to what people in Leics have to pay for weekly bus passes)
food - cheap (70 to 80 Kroner per meal, drink included; most dishes are reasonably healthy, too, such as Thai food or salad with seafood)
drinks - cheap (unless you get beers at the airport, any other touristy spot, a football match or at one of the System Bolaget outlets)
Accommodation - cheaper (If I didn't know BF, find me a cheap bed in Leicester)

Plus, sights and sounds are, err, slightly more attractive than those surrounding Leicester (not that I'm saying that Leicester is bad, but you know...).:icon_bigg

Since I don't know and can't be bothered to check what the exchange rate is for the Kroner, I'll have to keep out of this one.

10 Swedish Kroner are less than £1 at the moment. So it's roughly a 1:10 conversion rate.

Norway being more expensive, doesn't make Sweden cheap

Not really comparable as far as Leicester is concerned, there being no tram, no metro and not such a co-ordinated bus network. A 7-day bus ticket in Leicester would be cheaper but clearly not such value. In London a 7-day Zone 1 travelcard costs £27.20, would be valid on buses, trains and the Underground within the zone and would be sufficient for the needs of many tourists - and cheaper than the Stockholm card. The Stockholm card does however reach further out of the centre of the city and better value for those who want to travel other than in the centre.

On balance, the Stockholm 7-day ticket is better value than anything we have in England and I agree therefore that public transport is cheap.

food - cheap (70 to 80 Kroner per meal, drink included; most dishes are reasonably healthy, too, such as Thai food or salad with seafood)

I think you should make it clear that the 70 to 80 Kroner meals are generally only available at lunchtime and are strictly table d'hote. To eat in the evening is much more expensive. I posted a picture of a meal that I bought for 90 Kroner; I would not have had to pay anything like that amount for that kind of dish similarly presented in England. I also posted a picture of a McDonalds-type meal that was about 50% more expensive than in the UK.

With the exception of set lunches, food in Sweden is expensive.

drinks - cheap (unless you get beers at the airport, any other touristy spot, a football match or at one of the System Bolaget outlets)

I didn't see anywhere in Sweden where I would describe drink as cheap. It was universally expensive. Again, you must be comparing it with Swiss prices.

Accommodation - cheaper (If I didn't know BF, find me a cheap bed in Leicester)

I have booked double/twin rooms in Leicester many times for far less than the amount that you paid for your bed in an 8-bedded room in your Stockholm hostel. I can only presume that BF is inflating the price of accommodation in Leicester so she can keep you all for herself.

I think we were probably there just when the weather was right and amenable to those "more attractive sights and sounds". Certainly on the less pleasant days towards the end of our stay the "sights and sounds" had more clothes on. BM had more and better to see in the two days he was there than did NF in his four days later in the week.

I will point out though that "sights and sounds" have nothing to do with expense.

I stand by my point, that even for an Englishman, Sweden does not have to be expensive. lol

Food and drinks don't have to cost you a fortune, even as a visitor from the UK. Like I said, it depends on where you're going.
You can get both lunch and supper menus in Stockholm in the 75 to 95 Kroner price range - hardly expensive.
Besides, when we went to the Barcelona restaurant, that was in a clearly touristy spot. But admit it, it was delicious - I don't mind splashing slightly below £30 for a meal once. It was well worth it.

Public transportation in Leics (or almost anywhere in the UK outside London and/or Manchester or Newcastle) is a shambles.
Buses running late, the use of older, stinking models with a tight interior, guided by drivers on a suicide mission.
For what Arriva and Co. offer for the buck, it is expensive. With a few exceptions, public transport infrastructure is generally poor in the UK.
I think you CAN compare it to Stockholm - if you took away metro and tram services for the SL card, I bet it would be at least 50% cheaper and beat Arriva & Co's prices by a landslide.

What hotels/hostels have you been to in Leicester that cost less than Stockholm? Travelodge Leicester Central prices start at 40 to £50 per night - other places charge about the same average.
I see the Sky Plaza has rooms for £20 right now, but I take it that's an exception to the rule.
My hostel bed cost me around £25 to £28 per night - try to beat that in Leicester... Well, it's a bit of a trick question since there are still no hostels in Leicester (at least I've never found one):icon_wink

What did you pay for your hotel room in Stockholm per day?

Oh, and "sights and sound" might have nothing to do with expenses, but they do add to the overall value. LOL

The photographs in this thread have been a delight and my thanks go out to those who have taken the trouble to both take the pictures and upload them for the rest of us to share.

However, as none of them have appeared on the OS, there is no telling that any of these are genuine, therefore I take them as pure speculation rather than a true representation of the facts.

Please can we refrain from posting pictures that claim to be of the team on a foreign tour or fans enjoying the tour unless they have come from the website of either of the clubs or from an official spokesperson.

If you book in advance you can usually get rooms for £10 a night if you do it during their sales (which they have every couple of months)
Their current sale has sold out of £10 rooms but there are still plenty available for £15.

Absolutely. I've stayed in travel inn type places in Leicester many times and never paid more than £15 a night. I think I once had to pay £30 for a night at the one with the casino, but 4 of us piled in it in the end. £7.50 each! Book ahead....

The BH and I are headed to Edinburgh in September for a few nights, travel inn or travel lodge, whatever, £12 a night I think it works out as, in a great location.

UK travel and hotel costs can all be slashed if you book ahead, Alex.

Cheers, I'll keep that in mind for the moment BF starts worshipping Fake That 100%. :P

But... if you're looking at a 7-day stay, the average cost per day in a Travelodge is more in the region of £20, £25 up to £30 - you can't get a £10 - £15 room every night.
Of course, once you're at least two people traveling together, prices drop dramatically.

Looks like I now definitely need a better half to convert to Leicesterianism. All for the love, mind you.

Good luck. Ive tried and failed on a number of occasions.

I get the same when I click on the link for the Vasalunds game.

And this little series is worth its own caption competition

The Vasalunds IF game album link works fine for me. :102:
